Meet Trevon Johnson of Houston, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevon Johnson

Trevon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised on the Northside of Houston in a neighborhood called Studewood (the first black neighborhood in Houston). I always kinda knew I could rap cause ima good writer and I’m good at taking shit. I feel like everybody in Houston can rap though. We grew up beating in tables saying “man hold up, man what’s good…” I grew up in the era of car freestyles and watching people like Tokyojetz, Megan & Ommeretta freestyle so that’s kinda all people in Houston did at the time too. Me and my friends made a couple car freestyle videos but never anything we took too serious. By the time I graduated high school I was more focused on College and running the streets with the wrong people trying to get money to support myself so I kinda put anything creative like rap or fashion in the back burner for a long time. One day my childhood best friend called me and asked me to write her a song cause she was viral and wanted to make a dis track to girls talking about her. I end up writing her one and rapping her something I been wrote and she said that I need to go record what I rapped at the studio cause it was good. I booked a random session at Studio 713 and I recorded two or 3 sings in like 2 hours My friend literally planned a video shoot a week later and the rest was history.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve only been rapping seriously for like 5 months so it’s been pretty fun and I haven’t run into any huge obstacles yet as far as the industry. I do feel like that because I’m gay rapper that other straight male rappers, producers, engineers, etc…in Houston don’t wanna outwardly support me or take me serious sometimes but I’m not vexed about it. I’m playing my part and staying down. I’m really locked in right now and grinding hard so bumpy or smooth, it’s all the same. I’m just tryna stay on the right road. I’m most proud of the fact that people like my music !!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what separates me from other artist right now is that I’m creating a lane for myself that’s all my own. It’s 100% authentic. I’m really from the South. Really from the trenches, and I’m really really gay! I feel like I’m mixing down south gangster rap with my own girl pop sound and that expresses who I am perfectly !

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Me and my friend have this saying that “It’s Coachella” which just means it’s lit. We say it tho cause we say we are on the road to Coachella. So preforming at Coachella and gaining more recognition for my music are my goals as of now. This is probably corny too but to remain happy honestly.
