Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Nelson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Trey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started when I was training, my younger brother over summer 2015. After our workout session, he told me that: “I should train more kids because they will listen to you”, and he also said I was a good coach. I knew then if my younger brother said that, this might be the way to go. Next, I contacted my younger cousin, Ryan Kelly about setting up football camps over the summer. I was so focused and driven to get the training started that Dynasty Athletes was born within three months. Next, I hosted several of my own football camps, and I was invited to work other camps, such as Lone star football camp, and Adidas Rivals camp. From there, I acquired my first client.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think with any dream there will be some rocky roads. But I believe that is a faith test from God. After a year of clients dropping off and slow seasons of training, I wanted to give up. But one day in church, the pastor announced that he would like all entrepreneurs to come to the front for prayer. I kept my seat until I heard him say, there is a young man in here who gave up on his business, but I want to pray with you and encourage you.” Two weeks after that, I signed up five kids. I believe God has been faithful to me because I am truly passionate about working with young people.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The name of my company is Dynasty Athletes. The name stems from being on a Back to Back State championship football team at St.Pius X High School. I chose the name Dynasty because I attend for my athletes to rule and dominate their sport. I am a formal running back, so I specialize in the running back position. My drills are designed to enhance performance in feet work, agility, eye coordination, and speed. What makes me proud is the kids believe in me and the process. They understand its not a race, but it’s a marathon. What sets me apart in this industry is guiding the athletes not just on the field, but off the field. A huge part of my passion comes from mentoring young people. When I am with my kids, I often reminisce about my youth and it makes me happy that I can make a difference in their path for the better.
What were you like growing up?
My childhood was very interesting. Growing up, I always wanted to be the entertainer such as taking pictures, and for my parents to record me. I remember playing little league football and for every game, we played my dad would record me and I would promote myself telling whoever to come out and see me play. My personality is outgoing, passionate, and caring and my interest has always been sports or history.
