Today we’d like to introduce you to Tykeiah Briggs
Tykeiah , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2018 I took the leap of faith moving to Texas from my small town of Manning, SC with 3 suitcases and ambition. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or be I just knew I didn’t want to end up stuck like most people I knew back home. I always loved lashes I felt it was big enhancement from our natural beauty so I’d always wear them. I cheered for Texas Southern University so I would always wear makeup and the lashes were my favorite part. Over time I grew from doing my own lashes to doing my teammates lashes whether it was on my bed, the bus, on their couch, my couch. It didn’t matter where just know I was coming to get the job done. So I started to think why not try and do this little hobby for real rather than on the side. I thought if my teammates like them why not take a professional class and better my craft and my knowledge of it ? So that’s what I did I took my work-study money, which wasn’t a lot lol, and saved up to take a course. If I’m going todo something I want todo it the correct way and actually take the time to learn. I feel as though the outcome is better when you’re patient! So I went from hair store clusters to advanced mink eyelash extensions I practice everyday after that lash class. Flash forward between 2020-2022 I’ve advanced in my craft from having my own lash suite, marketing on campus tiger walk, to collaborating with other influencers, clientele coming from random hashtags, to overall making YFBminks a known name among campus. Then I ended up in the hospital due to stress. I had the feeling of God telling me I had too much on my plate and needed to slow down. From being in school, working three jobs all combined to pay two rents, and having my car stolen by the KIA boys. It was if everything was happening back to back and I couldn’t catch a break! So I had to make a choice either allow myself to burn out and hate my craft later on down the line or step back and take a break from it and I’ll return when I feel it’s right. I chose option number two it was hard but I feel as though I made the right choice in the end because it allowed me find myself and figure out what I wanted todo. God blessed me to finish school in 2023 with a job in my field of Education. Allowed me to move out of college housing (I HATED IT), and they found my SAME car on the side of the road which was easily repaired! After listening to God he allowed me to accomplish everything that was stressing and stopping me from doing my true passion of lashing. Flash forward to 2025 He’s given me the courage to slowly jump back into the water of loving my craft. Starting over from scratch with new products, setting boundaries, and remembering the reason I started in the first place. I started because it personally made me feel confident and then I start helping other women feel that same confidence and that’s what it’s all about. Helping woman feel and look their best is the best feeling. The moment of when they look in the mirror and gasp and say “I love them” melts my heart every time. Also networking with other bosses or businesses like influencers, makeup artist, local hair stores, or popup shops to come together in the beauty industry. That’s how I got this interview from a great friend and supporter of my business. You never know who’s talking about you in a room you haven’t even stepped foot in yet!
My brand was named YFB (Young Fly Boss) because I wanted any woman that received a service or product from me to feel like the boss that I know she’s capable of being. With the confidence and beauty to step foot in rooms and be the topic of conversation due to something that I was grateful to be the reason for! I want to continue to grow my business in this amazing city of opportunity I’ve only scratched the surface there’s so much more to accomplish!
Thank you for you time!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obstacles for myself were learning to take time for myself and actually learning to grow as an individual and self reflect. The hardest obstacle is being patient when I had to step back from my business it was hard waiting but eventually waiting allowed me to receive something better. Have you ever seen the picture where God took the little girls teddy bear but had a bigger one behind his back? Basically saying have faith and patience for a bigger outcome that you’d never expect and that’s exactly what He did for me!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lash artist that specializes in eyelash extensions. I’m most proud of my growth as a small business owner. I intend to grow as I continue to network and socialize with other brands and opportunities that come my way. I feel as though what sets me apart from others is that I don’t fear change as the world evolves so should you too. Don’t just stay in one setting when you haven’t tried any others that’s what can hold you back from expanding your brand and business. Being openminded and taking suggestions doesn’t mean you’re weak it means you are willing to learn new things that can later on benefit and perfect your craft.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When I first got my lash suite I was a newbie. The owner was also a specialized lash tech as well but she had being doing it for many years. I got the courage to ask her if she would mentor me she said yes! She took me under her wing with giving me small tips and advice of being a business own and lash tech. She even bought me a professional lash bed to get rid of the flat amazon one I was using. What worked well for me is speaking up! Had I not said anything I probably would caught on to things eventually. But being that I asked for help it sped up the process! When you make connects it allows you receive knowledge from people with a little more wisdom to make yourself and your business grow.
