Uniq, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After serving in the Army for 5yrs and doing military contract deployments for another 2yrs it was time for a life change. Moving to Houston, Texas by way of St. Louis, Missouri seemed to be the start. I looked to create better opportunities and environments for me & my children.
After my years of service & having all these various types of security jobs I wanted a different career path. I identified barbering as a career where I could have the flexibility of being an active father, have more time for my children and also have an occupation with daily growing earning potential. I didn’t expect to develop a passion for the craft and enjoy the fruits of what comes with it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I became a barber & entrepreneur merely out of necessity. I had to identify a new career at 29yrs old where I can have the flexibility for my children. While at the same time having the capability of a diverse growing income. So I jumped into the field head first & developed a therapeutic passion for the craft. Now, the pathways I took to get to this point I wouldn’t recommend to others because of the potential hurdles, but with God’s guidance it worked out for me. Being a single father, but also doing something I enjoy doing makes these sacrifices all more rewarding

I speak more about these trials & lessons on the podcast “Trenches 2 Trophies” with my cohosts. I ended up merging my barbering brand “Uniq Artistry” & clothing brand “Beyond Mortal Aesthetics” to cultivate something new. That’s the next phase of this ever growing journey so please stay tuned, I will be documenting my journey on my newly created YouTube channel!
How do you define success?
Success to me is doing something you enjoy to do, but it also earns you income. Finding fulfillment, growth and balance in your work. It’s not just about achieving external goals or recognition, but also about experiencing satisfaction, passion, and purpose in what you do.
