Today we’d like to introduce you to Uriah Ortiz.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started learning the locksmith trade in January of 2007, with Gordon Safe and Lock in Houston. I knew going in that I would learn the trade and start my own company eventually, but after a few years I realized there was not only an opportunity to start my own locksmith security company, but the opportunity to create a company, brand, and culture that revolutionizes the industry and brings the industry into the next generation of innovation.
I noticed that the locksmith industry was dated, full of locksmith companies that only do one or a few different services, and also noticed that the few lock shops that do exist looked basic, plain and uninspiring. So, I decided to create a brand, culture, and company that would fix all areas of weaknesses that I saw in the industry. Also, if you do the research, which I have, there really isn’t any locksmith company with a dominant market share in the industry, At least not yet.
That being said I created Guardian Safe and Lock-In August of 2010, with $300 in my pocket and was on my way. Today, seven years later, we offer the following services, Commercial & Residential Locksmith services, Access Control, Automotive Locksmithing, Safes, CCTV, home automation and alarms. We currently have 4 fully operational mobile service vehicles and our shop that opened in August of 2016, but we are just getting started.
We have plans to expand across the nation and develop small neighborhood hub stores, fully operational lock shops, and security supercenters which will contain every security service available from safes, alarms, CCTV, Access Control, Automotive car keys and remotes, personal security products, home automation and a lock shop.
Also, we hope to eventually manufacture our own safes and distribute through our stores.
We are just getting started and we have already set the foundation and are ready to start opening additional locations as soon as next summer. So, be on the lookout for Guardian because when its all said and done we will be the locksmith company America knows and trust.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth path, but I believe you create your own luck through constant persistence and focus on your goal. I’m always in that thought process of creating, innovate, revolutionize, and develop. If your in that mindset constantly and are laser-focused I believe it makes things run a little smoother so to say by drawing all the positive energy and putting it into your passion. Banks denied me and people doubted me, and still do but that’s what motivates me and I like having the odds against me, that’s when I work my best.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently because I like where we are and believe we are on course to accomplish great things. The journey, the ups and downs, the doubters, and the life lessons learned along the way are priceless.
