Today we’d like to introduce you to Vasti Adkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a musician, educator, and singer-songwriter wearing many hats in the Houston arts scene. For the last five years, I’ve been one of the directors of the Houston Boychoir. It’s a joy to help boys find their voice and connect them with other boys from across the city who love music and singing probably just as much as thy do. We have fun! I’m also a worship leader at Inspire Church and Inspire Church en Español. Recently I’ve added a new hat to my wardrobe: recording artist. This past spring, I released my Spanish and English language debut album: Remanente. It’s been a rewarding experience to see my songs being sung in worship serviced not my own. Hearing personal stories about how some of the songs resonate with listeners gets me every time.
I was born and raised here in Houston. HISD educated K-12. I studied voice at High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and studied Music Education at Houston Baptist University. This fall, I will complete an MBA with a concentration in Music Business from Southern New Hampshire University & Berklee College of Music Online.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been very blessed. So many friends, teachers, mentors, and pastors have guided me along my way.
