Meet Veneisha Brown of Urban Luxe Properties in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veneisha Brown.

Veneisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So, I’m originally from New York, upstate. Born and raised, and went to college at Buffalo State. My best friend whom I’ve known since I was about 5 or 6 years old was stationed in the army here in Houston. I was going through an unhealthy relationship and expressed to my friend that I needed to do something with myself and I had such a hunger inside to do something big. I can to visit her for Thanksgiving and made the decision then to just take the leap of faith and move. Everything in me told me to so went home from my visit with her packed up my car of whatever could fit and drove back. I didn’t have a job or a plan I just knew I would figure it out when I got here because I was too determined not to. I wasn’t sure what my direction was or how hard things would be, but this move was the biggest decision I’ve ever made and I couldn’t turn back. I found a job doing home care while studying for my Real Estate exam. I was super distracted because I was enjoying the lifestyle, and I wasn’t working as hard as I could. I dragged my feet for a while working jobs to get a check and doing my Real Estate whenever I felt like it. Unfortunately, being distracted, I started to feel unfulfilled and started to become frustrated with myself thought about just giving up so many times. I questioned everything I did and would quick jobs to focus on my Real Estate and then get scared and go back to work, it became a repeat cycle.

Until recently, I quick my job for the last time. I decided I was going to give Real Estate everything I had, win lose or draw. I set my mind out to finish the race I started for myself. I knew there would be times I would struggle financially but I knew I couldn’t have a safety net anymore and I had to bet it all. So, I did. I quit and I’ve been able to stay above water financially but it’s not where I want to be. So, I recently have been giving it my all and slowly but surely, I’ve come to meet some great people make amazing connections and the opportunities in front of me I never would have thought I would have so soon. I know 1 thing for sure is that I will be absolutely unstoppable and an amazing entrepreneur. I’m glad that I’m making all the mistakes now because it has shaped me into what who I am growing to be.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. I have had to get on food stamps at one point, I started driving for Uber and Lyft. I had to make some serious sacrifices and I wasn’t always sure I was going to make it through. I had to stay with friends multiple times. I’ve had to hold three jobs before just to maintain. I used to buy a large pack of meat and portion it out for the week so it would last because money was tight. Any money I had that wasn’t paying for rent, went to marketing. I would spend hundreds on online marketing and it did not pay off. But as I said I learn so much from all my choices.

Urban Luxe Properties – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So, I’m a Realtor at Urban Luxe Properties and we are a full-service agency. Most of the agents are mainly locators and some do it all. I personally do everything, residential, commercial and locating services for apartments or rental homes. I specialist in relocation and my new focus is commercial. I’m usually the one that does a lot of relocation and private rentals. I think we have a pretty strong team, and every one comes with different knowledge and experiences which makes us so great. I think what sets me apart from other is that I’m always willing to work any time of day and I give every client red carpet treatment regardless of the price tag. I like to be very hands-on with my clients. My clients invite me to graduations, family dinner, birthday, etc. All because I get to know them and its genuine.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success can mean so many different things. It really depends on your story, because that will shape what your idea of success means. For me, success is when I can financially provide for my mom and siblings. When I have trust funds set up for my niece and nephews. My main goal is to open a transition home for young women. There’s a lot of things I want to do to give back, but more than anything, I just want a peace of mind and great support. I set certain markers for myself throughout life since I was a teen. I don’t have set markers per-say as long as I’m reaching or trying to achieve the quarterly goals I set for myself that’s markers enough for me because those small goals are just pieces to my larger puzzle. So, my next big goal is to have my owner firm or team.
