Meet Lymaris Bernal of Vera Salón in Cinco Ranch West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lymaris Bernal.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lymaris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always loved “playing” with hair. I stared playing with my doll’s hair and later on styling and cutting family’s hair and even my own. I always had so much interest in different types of art like painting and photography. But, it wasn’t until I was 18 that I discover the art of hairstyling. Only one week after I graduated high school, my family decided to leave Puerto Rico, my homeland, and we all came to Houston.

My sister had cancer and after several brain operations, MDAnderson was our last option. Houston was (at the time) something temporary and I decided to take advantage of the time and take cosmetology classes while we were able to go back “home” and start my classes in University, in my primary language, Spanish. Well, the rest is history! ha! My sister is now cancer free! And ten years later, I’m still in Texas, doing what I love the most! After working in two different salons and learning great things from them, I realized that I wanted to grow, I wanted to do more, I wanted to combine my passion for the Art and do great things! I am now in my own studio called Vera Salon, after my last name. I have awesome customers every day and I love seeing their smiles when the see the end result of their hair. that fills my heart. that, and art. I’ve been able to grow, to create. I have collaborated with photographers, graphic designers, and makeup artists to create beautiful looks on pictures! Is amazing the kind of things you can do when you put a group that loves art all together! The sky is the limit!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been hard. Being away from your culture can be really hard sometimes, trying to learn a new language, communicating with clients was a struggle at first. trying the let them know me, let them see what I was in the inside was difficult, trying to have a relationship with them, when you don’t speak the same language or have the same culture.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vera Salón – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Vera salon is a “person to person” salon experience. When my client comes to my chair they know my time will be all for them and that I’ll make sure to spoil them with a little tea, or some wine, and of course, we can’t forget about the scalp massage and hot towel at the shampoo time! I specialize in Balayage, highlights, and really, all kinds of hair colors you can think off. I believe that a haircut and color have to look great together which is why I love being able to do both and trust me, I’m very picky about making sure the ending result is perfect!

I listen to my clients, pay attention to what they’re asking for, I do exactly what they ask for and if they want something I don’t think would look good on them or could damage their hair I offer different options. I love fun and beautiful hair but healthy hair is always my priority. My clients love me because of that!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Oh, this is just the beginning, there’s a lot more to come! My dream is to open a big hair salon and be able to inspire young hairdressers to be more! Show them that it doesn’t matter how hard the process can be, they can achieve everything they set on there mind. And who knows, maybe one day, be a big well-known name!
