Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Olivarez.
Veronica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When people ask me how I got started, I legit can laugh! It’s been such a crazy experience but I wouldn’t trade anything I been through for the world. It has all led me to where I’m at now. Believe it or not, I use to just freelance (makeup) for a period of time and I had heard that dancers were always looking for makeup artist little did I know what I was getting myself into. Houston is so diverse and plenty of money to go around. So with that being said, I got up one morning and went to a club and became a house mom. I thought I was going to be doing just hair and makeup. No! Not at all, I sold clothes and shoes, did hair, and makeup listened to the dancer’s experiences. I was a house mom, I did it all! I did that for a while till I got back into makeup as a manager at Nordstrom’s! Amazing company! Unfortunately, I missed doing the clothes, shoes and the works! I’m a pro makeup artist people are my passion. I believe everyone should feel beautiful, glam, excited, experience a moment where you couldn’t wait to take pictures so my job as a makeup artist went hand in hand.
I always said I would once start my own business. I’m a natural-born hustler with a big heart. That’s where Veronicas glam house came about! It joined my two passions in one! I do all things glam! Makeup and an on hand clothing/accessory boutique. It’s a fairly new business but it’s always been a dream. I come from a traditional family, but I knew I had a special path and passion. The amount of support and love I’ve gotten from everyone is amazing! I’m currently waiting on my 6th shipment, recently added accessories, and expanded sizes ranging from small to xxxl for my curvy glam babies. Everyone should be glam and chic no matter what age, gender, race, etc. If you were to ask anyone who knows me am I doing what I love they will scream yessss! I’ve worked so hard, but so grateful to be able to say this year, I became a step closer to achieving another goal.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Or course not! As an entrepreneur anyone will tell you, you will face many obstacles. Unfortunately for me, mine came at a younger age. I never had the luxury to go to college or say I lived with my parents till I was grown. I was a senior in high school 18 years old and was kick out for being me. Gay. It was one of the hardest things but it made me who I was. I’m 27 now still gay no longer considered a phase and have made a way for myself. I use to work three jobs just for the sake of never having to ever depend on anyone again. Not because I had to but because I wanted to. I’ve always been a hard worker. I just can’t see myself working for someone else the rest of my life. My grandma Would always Tell me we have one life to live. It’s so cliche but it’s true. She would always root me on and tell me keep going. I know she would be proud I’m doing everything I said I would. I love being joy to others. Whether it’s a glam session (makeup) or a glam clothing from my clothing line. It’s all dreams that became a reality. This is just the beginning.
Veronicas Glam House – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m the owner of Veronicas Glam House! I have two businesses in one. Veronica’s glam house makeup came first. Makeup is my specialty. It makes me so excited to transform everyone to their most glammest moments. Even at work people will come for makeup and they will always bring them to me as soon as the word glam comes out! That’s me I’m glam, glam is me! Then Veronica’s glam house clothing came out this year. It’s my baby I’m so proud about. I first had the idea that everyone should be affordably glam no matter what age, race, gender, or size. I’m very proud to say I’ve expanded my clothes this week to a curvaceous xxxl! No one should ever feel a way because of today’s society. It makes my day when my loved ones and even people I don’t even know purchase and rave about the items they bought. I want everyone to feel amazing when they bought something from me with their hard earn money. I would say my creativity, passion, love, story, ambition is what sets me apart. I’ve created my own lane despite who didn’t believe in me. The most important thing is to never give up and Believe in yourself.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Happiness is what defines success for me. I sometimes can’t sleep because my mind is always racing from the excitement of what’s to come. I am so happy I never listened to anyone and kept going. It brings joy knowing others are excited for glam sessions with me or to pick up their clothes they just purchased. I’m not finished just yet. I still have more in store. You know they say it you speak into existence watch what the world does in return. It listens it sounds crazy but it’s true. Everything I’ve said and set my mind to has slowly but surely came together. Don’t ever let anyone rush you or make you feel like your not where you are supposed to be at. We all have our own paths. Start small, set goals, and knock them out one by one. You will take off before you know it! Don’t be afraid success comes in many forms not just financially.
