Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Flores.
Victor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It is safe to say that my passion for real estate started at a very young age when my father would let me help him with his construction business. At first, I did not appreciate this time with my father at the sites — it took time away from my friends. The work was difficult, but I enjoyed seeing the end result. The homes we worked on were always beautiful to me. When it came time for me to begin thinking about my future, about my career, it became clear to me that my background in construction was an asset. It opened up many doors. I began a promising career in construction management. After about five years in this field, much of the time with companies that would have me working far away from my hometown, I decided I wanted to focus more of my energies in Houston. After trying out other industries, I felt drawn back to the home industry. That is when I decided that, instead of building homes, I would sell them. This has brought me to where I am now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, It has not been a smooth ride. One of the main things I have come across in my work is agism. Being so young working as a construction manager and as a real estate agent, I’ve often been the youngest person in the meeting room. It often felt like I had to prove my competence to every new person I met.
Engel & Völkers Houston – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As an advisor, you are your own business. I represent and am represented by Engel & Völkers Houston. I specialize in the Montrose community. My firm is known for giving the “white-glove treatment” to our clients. We accommodate local and international needs. As such an international city, Houston is the perfect place for our brand. Apart from being one of the most exclusive firms in Houston, one thing that sets up apart from other firms is our aviation and yachting division.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment would definitely be looking back at the end of my first year as an advisor and realizing I exceeded the sales expectations that I had set for myself. It was a motivating moment.
