

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Powell.
Vincent Powell (Vocalist/Songwriter/Actor/Vocal Coach) earned his Bachelor of Music in voice (Tenor) and a minor in Fine Arts (Musical Theatre/Jazz Studies) from Texas Southern University in 2008. Vincent Powell was Top 20 Finalist on America’s #1 Show on Fox “American Idol.” Powell has sung back up for such artists as Whitney Houston, Kim Burrell, Letoya Luckett, Byron Cage, Micah Stampley, & Many More
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Please tell us about your work.
Born in Austin, Texas, Vincent Powell is a graduate of Texas Southern University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. His unique blend of Gospel and Jazz with a contemporary flavor helps him to perform to the world without crossing over. The Singer/Songwriter/Actor started singing at a young age and received musical guidance from his mother and older brother, George Powell. He began singing church hymns and songs of the church and then decided to join his church choir (Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, A.W. Anthony Mays, Pastor). At that time, the church choir was under the leadership of JDI Recording Artist Chester D.T. Baldwin.
Vincent has been a featured performer for over 10 years for Dancin’ in the Street… Motown & More Revue at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, Texas which attracts over 20,000 people annually. Since 2009, he has served as the Minister of Praise & Worship at Fallbrook Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Pender where the church membership is 8,000. In 2013, Vincent was a Top 10 Male Finalist for Season 12 of American Idol on Fox. His live national performance of “Cause I Love You” by Lenny Williams garnered national attention from the likes of Lenny Williams, Rolling Stone Magazine, Billboard Magazine, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and many more.
Powell has always been a friend of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and has performed state-wide and on the main stage at the national convention. He participated in the NAACP Act-SO competition (1st place in Austin, TX, and was a finalist at the National Level for two years). Vincent has starred in several musicals around Houston including Porgy & Bess, Cosi Fun Tutti (TSU), Die Fledermaus (TSU), The Wiz (TSU), Hair – Rock Musical (U of H Clearlake), and Smokey Joe’s Café (Wortham). He has performed principal character and extra work for Star Furniture (commercial), Judge Alex Ferrer (Fox), Judge Christina Perez (Fox), and La Berge Casino Resort (commercial).
Vincent has sang background for Whitney Houston (Arista), Kim Burrell (Sony), Krishnar (MTV/JIVE), Byron Cage (Zomba), Letoya Luckett (Capital), Micah Stampley (EMI), Dorothy Norwood, Kathy Burrell, Joey Oscar (Uppa level/Sony/universal), Peter Hager, and many more. He has been on various stages and programs with such artists as Kelly Rowland, Musiq Soulchild, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Dorinda Clark-Cole, J. Moss, Natalie Wilson, Bobbie Jones and many more.
His Membership Affiliations include: Texas Christian Songwriters Association, BACE productions, A+ Actors Of Houston, Southwest Casting.
