Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Patel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cody. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a young boy, I saw my mom help less fortunate members of the community. She was committed to folks in Houston that no one else would serve. I would ride around with her as she dropped of nebulizers and other medical supplies to families in need. I said, “Hey mom, you have this nice Lexus and you’re driving around these tough neighborhoods. Why are you doing this?” and my mom said, “If I don’t do this, no one else will.” She inspired me with her compassion and hard work ethic, much like my grandfather who was my hero.
My grandfather was the founder of a large drug manufacturing company in India. He gave scholarships to people that are now doctors in this country. He also fed the homeless that lived outside of his home. He was a very kind and generous person.
Following in my family’s footsteps, I decided to do something great on my own. I have the humble luxury of being an inside out operator. I’ve seen the problems first hand. Now, I get to help design solutions that make sense and scale them to population needs through healthcare technology, telemedicine, and chronic home healthcare management.
At the forefront of a healthcare crisis, I realized a lot of people have sleep issues and no one knows how to get help. My solution was to create a sleep engagement with the community through education and awareness. I want to impact the one third of everyone’s life that is missing…SLEEP.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t easy. My wife and I leveraged everything we had because we believed we had what it takes to succeed. I call my wife the ‘bread winner’ to this day. She made a lot of sacrifices so I could live my dream of changing and disrupting the healthcare world. We lived month to month for a while after investing in our first company in a small town in east Texas. I refer to that place as a “Lotus in the swamp”. It wasn’t in the most beautiful place, but I could see the beauty and have watched it blossom into our thriving businesses today.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Vitalus Health – what should we know?
Vitalus Health is focused on creating solutions for population healthcare problems addressing airway, sleep, and neurological conditions. Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea), and CHF (Chronic Heart Failure) are just a few of the population healthcare crisis problems we address. Vitalus Health is housed under the roof of Indus River Ventures.
We are harnessing technologies to create solutions that will benefit a growing population and increase accessibility to healthcare for everyone. What does this mean to you? We are working on solutions in telemedicine that will connect you to your healthcare provider without ever leaving your home. We have opened the doors to remote monitoring, so you can perform such things as a sleep test at home. Our clinicians come to you and assist you in chronic home healthcare management. We are healthcare leaders, powered by people. We believe in creating innovative programs, platforms, and devices that will shape the future and create a strong community infrastructure.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I like to give credit to the people around me. I just happen to be the conductor sometimes – the maestro. But, it takes an orchestra to make beautiful music.
My wife, Kusum, has been my biggest supporter. As I previously stated, she is the “bread winner.” I couldn’t have accomplished any of this without her.
Mel Arenas is my right hand man. He is Vice President of Business Development. Mel applies expertise in all areas of operations, as well as experience gained from founding previous healthcare companies.
