Meet Viviana Rincon of Viviana in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviana Rincon.

Viviana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started wanting to become an artist the day I found out who Beyonce was. I would watch her perform on youtube and how her screaming fans would sing every lyric of her songs. The egotistical part of me wanted that, but the artistic part just wanted people to be able to hear my words. I always knew I wanted to be a singer, but it wasn’t until I experienced hardships that I knew I wanted to write. I went through a period where I fell into a deep depression, and I also struggled with severe anxiety. Through that pain, I started writing music (I had a lot of inspiration with everything that I was experiencing). I was able to write about the struggles I was having and emotions that made me feel so lonely. Music helped me to feel less alone, as cliche as it sounds. Through a year of work, I wrote my debut album “I Mean What I Say” which is a collection of eight songs that I wrote alone in my bedroom. That is where all of my songs start, alone in my bedroom. I will be having my debut concert on May 18, 2019, and I am so excited to spread my message of self-acceptance to as many people as I can

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like I mentioned before, I struggled with severe depression, anxiety, and I also had many body image issues which led me to have an eating disorder. I had a terrible image of myself and I genuinely believed that I was worthless (sounds very dramatic, I know). Because of this, I had to end up going to treatment centers, which is something I am not at all ashamed about. In fact, I believe that one of my strongest moments in life was finding the courage, to be honest, with the people around me and get help. Through therapy, I was able to find myself again. Through music, I was able to find my worth again.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an 18-year-old singer/songwriter who has been studying vocal technique and performance for ten years. I have been writing my own music since the early age of eight, but I have been writing good music since I was 14. I am self-taught in instruments such as ukulele, guitar, and piano. What I am most proud of is the honesty I have when I write music. I am proud that I can pull from my experiences and create art that people can connect to. I believe that this sets me apart because it’s my story, and no one has lived through my exact story.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a huge role in my life and business. Because of luck, I was able to find a recording studio and find the incredible people I worked with on my album. I was introduced to sound engineer Roberto Rincon and producer Tony Ascanio, along with various other talented musicians. I was also very humbled to be able to have Grammy-winning Emily Lazar master my album. This all happened to me because I was in the right place at the right time. However, I can not forget how all of this luck came from a time of hardships and misfortune. I am so fortunate to be able to have a strong support system in my life that helps me through the ups and the downs.
