Hi Viyakool, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Two reasons why I decided to launch my wedding planning and coordination business;
1st reason: Our eldest and only daughter became engaged in September 2025. While planning her wedding, I had a “lightbulb moment”. Something in my brain, just clicked. I want to be wedding planner.
Throughout my professional life, I never felt any passion or excitement. I was there just to clock in and collect a paycheck at the end of the week. At times, I would question if I would ever find my professional passion. With wedding planning and coordination, I now can proudly say that “I love what I do, and I will never work another day in my life.”
2nd reason: A few months prior to our daughter becoming engaged, my father unexpectedly passed away.
It was his dream for my brother and I to start a family business together or for one of us to start a business. Unfortunately, that dream never came to fruition while he was alive. Upon realizing how fragile and short life can be, I just decided to take a leap of faith and go all in. Now that I have figured out what my “adult job” is, I am trying to grow my small business. I just launched about 6 months ago. It is my dream to one day retire my husband from his current job and have our daughter and my sister-in-law join the business to make it a family affair.
Without the love, support, and financial backing from my husband, there would be no ‘Events By Viyakool’. My husband has always been loving and supportive of all of my endeavors. He is my best friend, the best father, hardworking, and I am beyond blessed to have him as my life partner. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. I actually have a current bride who will be getting married on our anniversary date.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been difficult to market myself, as they say, it takes money to make money. Money that I really do not have, but we are trying to make it work. I am trying to establish myself in a very saturated market and competing with more experienced planners and coordinators. I know that over time, as I complete more weddings or events, it will take time to establish trust, build up my clientele, portfolio, and reputation in this industry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I help brides plan their wedding from start to finish or however much help they are needing. I also help brides on the day of their wedding bring their vision, hard work, and planning to reality. I manage the entire wedding day for my couples’, so they can be fully present with their loved ones on their special day. I take on all of the brides’ stress, before and after she says, “YES”.
I am most proud of the fact that I have a gift of talking to complete strangers in a natural and organic way. It doesn’t feel forced. It is as if, we have known each other for years. I pride myself in being a bride’s wedding ‘bestie’. I love talking about wedding related things and will never get tired of it.
What were you like growing up?
I was an athlete in elementary, middle, and high school. I played soccer and basketball. I dabbled in track and field one year in high school but did not enjoy it. I like to think outside of the box, and I use sarcasm quite a bit.
