Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Barreda.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up on the Southwest side of Houston, Texas. As a child, I grew up in a single parent household. Having to grow up with only women in the house, I took on the role of being the “man of the house.” During my childhood, I faced obstacles with my surroundings/environment to having a speech impediment and struggling with dyslexia. Although the obstacles I have faced, I must say I’m truly blessed. God has been in the center of everything I’ve gone through and has watched over me due to my grandmother relentlessly praying. In the second grade, I received an award for most improved student of the year, which only two kids out of the school could receive. During junior high is when I really took on playing sports. Football was the sport that I gravitated to. Playing football turned out to be my saving grace. Not only did it make me focus in school to keep my grades up. But it also kept me out of the streets during some crucial times in my life. I was born in an era where you could easily be sucked into street violence, selling drugs, and gang activity. My football career continued throughout high school. I graduated from Sharpstown High School in the top 25% of my class, top football player, and was awarded the most successful young man. Only one male student could be awarded from each school in the district. My senior year, I was offered an academic scholarship to Texas Lutheran University. After being at Texas Lutheran for two years and with two football seasons down I started thinking about how I wanted to play on a division 1 team. After weighing my options and factoring in being told I didn’t have the capability to play on a division 1 level was when I chose to make my move to Prairie View A&M University. It was in 2012 when I walked on and earned my spot. During my senior year in college, I found out I was having a little girl who changed my life forever. Preparing to give her the life I’ve always dreamed of having. The vision was lost due to an arm injury which ended my career. Because of my arm injury, I would no longer be able to fulfill the plans I had of playing in the NFL. In May of 2015, I graduated Prairie View A&M with a Bachelor of Science. Eight days prior to my graduating is when my daughter Peyton Barreda was born as one of the smallest babies weighing 1 pound 3 ounces. With me just graduating, having my daughter be born prematurely along with spending eight months in the hospital was by far one of the hardest times of my life. With my daughter in the hospital getting stronger each day and jumping from job to job was when I started reevaluating my life. With me reevaluating my life, I learned to work for someone was not what I wanted to do. One thing I was sure about was I wanted to help people physically, mentally, and spiritually. One day sitting at home brainstorming a powerful word popped up in my head, and that word was REUP. The Word REUP stands for a new start, new beginning, and a new chance at life. That word pushed me to start my nonprofit organization called The REUP Movement. My nonprofit organization started by targeting the downtown area due to a significant amount of the homeless population residing there. When we first started servicing the Downtown Houston homeless community, we only had 60 sandwiches and two cases of water. Now we are able to make 200 to 300 plates along with hygiene products. We have also partnered up other organizations to make donations along with looking for other ways to give back. With my nonprofit organization servicing the community, I realized I needed equipment to record our work, so I started a production company called FATFULL Productions with ChrisCamera as my business partner. Our Production Company specializes in photography, videography, and editing. I have also created two shows called The REUP talk show starring Courtney Brown. Along with my food channel, First Bite starring Chef C. These shows can be accessed on my YouTube channel called FATFULL Productions. Juggling all these businesses along with working a 9-5 is rough, but I know that the reward will be worth every sleepless night. I’m a firm believer in I can do anything that I put my mind to. I pride myself on being positive 100% of the time. My love to inspire, motivate, service my community, and change people’s lives is where I get the most joy. The REUP Movement is headed in the right direction, and we look forward to showing the plans we have to change our community.
Has it been a smooth road?
Putting a business together is not easy at all. I have a full-time job, and I am a full-time father. Some of my biggest challenges are time management and being patient. With me running multiple businesses, time is definitely against you because there is only 24 hours in the day. Delegating time to each project on your list is crucial to success. Understanding patience is very crucial to feeling successful. As a business owner planning and waiting to see the fruits of your labor can take a toll on your mental and physical strength. I started to realize that I was not on my time but Gods time.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with FATFULL PRODUCTIONS – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our production company specializes in photography, videography, editing, event set-up, and creative directing. We have been a part of putting together projects for organizations and private clients. Anything you need done with a camera can be done by us.
The REUP MOVEMENT specializes in blessing others and putting positive energy out into the world to change lives. We set up events to serve the community by providing food, toiletries, and snack bags. We also set up different events and programs into the school surrounding the southwest area. Focusing on giving back wisdom and knowledge on life and other experiences seen by the people involved. We focus on giving the kids insight on how to be a better individual. How to prepare them for life challenges. Showing them how to self-love and build a networking system. Show them it is okay to be who they are, but it’s also very important to be able to conduct yourself as a professional individual. Putting back into the youth is very important, and we are here to make sure it gets done in our community.
I specialize in giving my people motivation through my social media and YouTube platform. I share videos of different topics and my life experiences. The purpose of my words is to help my people grow. I’m inspired to spread positive energy year round.
I Started the REUP Talk Show with Courtney brown which speaks on current topics and gives insight to topics that have been around for years now. Some of the topics are for jokes and laughs. Others are meant to stimulate our viewers’ thought process and allow them another point of view on subjects that matter. We have lived and experienced many challenges throughout our life. We focus on helping the next person get through theirs.
First bite is the food channel I started with Chef C. We give our personal opinion about the food, location, and restaurant we eat in. We bring humor and real-time reactions to the taste of the food. We also create dishes to share recipes and plates you could make at home. The purpose of this show is to give people different restaurants around the world they could visit when traveling. We also create challenges before going out, such as picking the healthy choice, following the keto diet, and choosing the vegan option. We take pride in giving you guys our real feedback.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the diversity.
What I like least about our city is how divided we are within our community.
