Meet Monica Udeh of Waxx-A-Holix Full Body Waxing in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Udeh.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Monica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was hired at a waxing company in July of 2013 after receiving my cosmetology license while attending high school. For four years, I learned the ins and outs of body waxing, customer service, and business leadership skills. After many pay cuts and being put in countless uncomfortable situations, I decided to step out on faith and start my own business. This task was not easy! There was a period where I was working from home out of my living room because my clients weren’t happy with the company I was working for rules. My clients needed to feel comfortable. They deserved to be treated fair and never rushed through their services. I knew I could provide everything that they desired when it came to my services. From walking in not feeling confident and leaving taking millions of selfies to need someone who will go the extra mile to make sure their skin is in good hands. I hated having to push product sales on them because I would get a write up if not. The facility showed favoritism to the employees more than the customers and that’s not right!

On July 28, 2017, at 23 years old, I finally cut ties with the waxing company and opened the doors to my own on August 1, 2017! This process was tough, I was unsure if my clientele would follow me and I could provide them a better customer experience for them. But I continued to stay focus and now in August of 2019, I will be celebrating my second year being open. Waxx-A-Holix has a fun yet professional atmosphere. There is never a dull moment, I love to put time into making sure my customers are distracted by what can be some painful waxing. I welcome everyone in my studio!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is NEVER easy, there is no time to clock out! I’m constantly thinking about my next move and how to improve the ones I’m currently making. After becoming my own boss, I gained numerous responsibilities. I am my own team. There’s maintaining finances, prompting myself on and offline, keeping up on inventory, actually providing services, problem-solving and much more. My biggest struggle was building the confidence to put myself and brand out there. I can be very shy, so walking up to people and handing them a business card for body waxing can be very awkward but I had to come to the realization that shy people make shy money. Despite all of of this, I wouldn’t trade my business for the world.

Although waxing can be a painful experience, I made sure to study different waxes to find the perfect blind for skin sensitivity. I couldn’t just pick one so, I offer 3 different types of waxes because I understand everybody’s skin is different. Also, living in Houston, the humidity can affect the way the wax is applied and removed, it can become very gummy. So, I have a regular wax the I usually use on larger body areas, a hypoallergenic wax that I use on Brazilians and a sensitive rose wax that I mostly only use on facial services!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I offer full body waxing, facials, micro-blading, and wax training course. I specialize mostly in Brazilian waxing. I’m well known for my professionalism, consistency, and sense of humor. I love making people laugh and feel comfortable. I’m proud that my clients see my company as a safe haven. What sets my company apart from others is, its a judge free zone. I am LGBTQ friendly. I myself know what it’s like to feel out of place. I want everyone to feel at home when they step foot into my business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a daredevil. There was nothing you could tell me I could not do. I loved problem-solving. I knew at the age of 12 I wanted to be my own boss!
