Meet Whitney Ochiam of Ebele’s Doll House in Downtown Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Ochiam.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Whitney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a kid, we would spend our free time outside playing games with our neighborhood friends. During my free time, I would stay in and watch YouTube videos all day. One day, I stumbled across a few makeup tutorials that were trending. I started to become intrigued with the art of doing makeup that I started buying dollar store makeup with all the small changes I could find. Over the years, I would practice different makeup looks until I became skilled at it. My junior year of high school, a few of my track and field teammates wanted me to do their makeup for our formal dances then for their graduation pictures. Soon after, a local photography company became interested in working with me during a photoshoot. I have been able to expand my clientele to work for weddings, radios, events, etc.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road because being a full-time student and track athlete at the University of Houston with the ambitions to double major in finance and entrepreneurship while being money hungry and deciding to juggle a regular job, it can be hard to have the time and energy to work. Being an entrepreneur, in order to succeed you have to be patient and believe in your work and that is something I lacked.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ebele’s Doll House – what should we know?
Ebele’s Doll House is a beauty service not to make you beautiful, but instead my work only enhances the beauty you own. My business is mainly known for my strobing barbie-like makeup looks, sew-ins and braids. When a client decides to book with me, they are officially consider my Barbie Doll and Barbies are young attractive dolls. I am most proud of how authentic I have made my business. I am a very creative person and a perfectionist causing me to put a lot of effort into my work before publishing it. What sets me apart is my skills at a young age. I am able to grow expeditiously because I will study my work and other artists while thinking outside the box.
