Meet Whitney Smith of The Local Loom in Memorial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Smith.

Whitney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for art and design. I majored in art in college and after graduation pursuing something in the art industry just wasn’t possible so I left the field. Fast forward to after I had my son, I was scrolling through Instagram during a late night nursing feed and I was bitten by the design bug again. I fell in love with different textiles and rugs and decided to just JUMP in…the local loom started a week later.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m a first-time business owner so every single day is a learning experience! Balancing family (2 kiddos under 3) and a business is HARD, but I’m enjoying this new journey!

Please tell us about The Local Loom.
The Local Loom offers antique and vintage rugs from all over the world. We also specialize in making custom rugs if you have something in mind for your space that you can’t find in our selection!

I’m super proud of my business because it’s something I started to give me an outlet outside of being a Mom. I feel alive again and I’m so happy I decided to do this. I’m also grateful for an amazing support system that’s helped me along the way!

When you shop with The Local Loom you’ll get a beautiful piece of art. My collection is carefully curated and unique.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve started earlier!
