Today we’d like to introduce you to William Cumby.
William, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in west Houston and attended Stratford High School. From there I matriculated through Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Ok. Upon graduation, I struggled to find a career. After being let go from a job, God led me to a passion that is purposeful.
Currently, I am the Youth Pastor at The Fountain of Praise. I have been serving in youth ministry for over ten years, traveled the world, and get to be a youth influencer in rooms that range from just a few people to a few thousand. I am married to Ebony Cumby, an elementary school principal in HISD, and I have three children.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not always been smooth. Some of the bumps that became springboards include experiencing the death of youth members, poorly attended events, doubt from others, and the passing of family members.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Fountain of Praise – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am the Youth Pastor for The Fountain of Praise. I manage minister to youth and coordinate special events for the youth ministry of a 25,000 member church. Some of my most notable events include our annual Hallelujah night event (Halloween alternative), Spring Rock out (city-wide bible study at The Toyota Center), and weekly devotionals for area high schools.
I am most proud of the youth who have matriculated through the ministry and made wiser choices because of their time there. Some of my greatest moments include the birth of my three children and being given my own day in The City of Houston (February 20th)
As a company, our job is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ every day with excellence. What sets us apart is the culture and creativity of our church. We are an engaging church that not only prides ourselves on Sunday worship but also daily work in our community and internationally.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to serve in the capacity of youth pastor while writing and traveling as a youth ministry advocate/trainer until God opens the next door of opportunity. I look forward to bigger stages, larger audiences, new locations, and more lives reached through the passionate teaching of God’s Word.
Yet, the greatest change is the moment anyone is positively changed as a result of the platform God provides us.
