Today we’d like to introduce you to Xavier Montoya.
KinTech is a small tech business that specializes in the repair of mobile electronics like Phones, Tablets, Computers and Drones. KinTech is owned by three young entrepreneurs (23,23,24) who all started in the telecommunications field in top wireless companies like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. When we were working for these companies, we realized there was a big gap for customers who had issues with their devices. The only two real options were to pay a high insurance deductible, which was way higher than just fixing the phone, or the other opinion was to upgrade and spend hundreds of dollars if they had no insurance. We realized a pain point that our customers had, we decided to work on opening our own business, and from that we created KinTech. We focus on bringing the same premium quality service but with more options for the customer in terms of mobile support. Now we have been open for two years and we are growing better than ever.
Throughout this entire journey, we would have never expected all the rollercoasters that this business would bring. Not only financially, but on a mental level, we have grown with the business and all the experiences we have been through. We know that our business has given us much more than just our income, and we see it through our customer reviews. We strive to find a solution for every customer that walks in and give them a superior customer experience every time. We are proud to hold our 5 Star Status on Yelp and Facebook, and going forward we plan to continue to do the same.
In all, we’ve also learned that as long as we try to become better than the day we were before, we will continue on our path to success.
Today, KinTech is alive and thriving with business; we feel so blessed to be able to impact the community in a positive way. From helping people from residential to commercial, we make sure every customer is taken care of.
Has it been a smooth road?
This journey certainly has not been a smooth road. From struggles with finances, to the everyday pain points of partner bickering, to having tax and permit issues. We have dealt with them all, but we’ve conquered them all as well.
If I could say two of the biggest things I learned, it would be:
- Make sure when you are leasing a space, that the HVAC unit your space holds is not under your responsibility but under the responsibility of the landlord. This one little statement in the millions of words that they make you sign in the contact, could be the difference of you paying thousands in unexpected repairs.
- PAY YOUR SALES TAXES. When we first started, we are not gonna lie, we we’re scared of anything that said taxes. We had no clue of the procedure, the rules, the reporting, nada. It was until they physically came to our shop and threatened to take our whole store away if we didn’t file and PAY our sales taxes. Now this has got to be one of the biggest reasons why small businesses unexpectedly shut down. If you don’t do this now, please start tomorrow, because in the end, when it’s time to pay and you don’t have the money. The Texas comptroller is not messing around and will seize your assets.

Our Company KinTech specializes in Phone Repair, Computer Repair, and coming soon Drone Repair. We pride ourselves on our quality and customer service. We feel that our focus is on the customer and their experience, and the way we do that is making sure the quality of our work is premium, the customer service is always top notch, and our prices are always competitive.
We started off with just phones, but grew out to working on tablets and computers and eventually even drones. What we’re mostly proud of is how in-tune we stay with the market and how we innovate just as fast as the technology does. At our retail location, we really set ourselves apart by providing a location that customers feel comfortable and secure that their devices will be handled and fixed properly.
I believe that what we are most proud of, is being rated 5 stars for a continuous 2 years now, over multiple social media platforms. It really shows how much our customers appreciate our business and also how well our work and services are. With our team, we have business plans that differentiate from the rest of the cell phone repair stores in the market. As we continue with our research and innovation, we know that we will soon be opening up more locations in the future.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is the best city to be in right now. There is so much opportunity for business minded people. There is so much money in this city that it’s hard not to find a way to make some. The harder the grind, the better the outcome. We love this city because of its diversity and its opportunity. So many sections of this wonderful city, you can always find something to do, or better yet someone to sell to!
