Meet Yebine Yabi of Dope Woman of God

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yebine Yabi.

Hi Yebine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Togo, West Africa. My family moved to Houston 22 years ago and we’ve lived here since. Coming from an immigrant background, I know what it means to have humble beginnings and having to work for everything you have.

My story began in 2017. Here I was a newly single mother with a child who was born 2.5 pounds and spent nearly 11 weeks in the NICU. On top of that, I was dealing with severe postpartum depression where I felt I was not good enough to continue this life. I was spiraling and hated everything, I was crying all the time even when my family tried their best which was not good enough for me. But my family was my biggest support system, they prayed with me and each day, my daughter grew stronger and stronger at the hospital. After she was released at 6 pounds, I looked at her one day and just broke down because I knew she needed a better mother figure. So I prayed and asked God for forgiveness, healing, and rededicated my life to Christ. That was 5 years ago and I have not looked back since and now my daughter also thriving.

In 2019, my family was hit with a devastating blow that would forever change us. My only younger brother was murdered. This was unexpected and shattered our hearts, especially mine. Knowing that everything would never be the same. I was broken and upset with God, which made me deviate from my faith because I questioned God on so many things. Here I was doing the best I could and walking on the right path and then I lose my brother in that manner, it was tough. I almost lost myself and I stopped praying and reading my Bible but then one day, I just picked it up again and this time, there was a verse that stood out to me. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Something shifted in me that day and I cried so hard and prayed to God for healing and for purpose. I wanted to know what good can come out of this tragedy, what good or purpose or calling God had for me. So from that day, I kept showing up and asking God to help me along the way through my grief and my healing. I started journaling, listening to sermons and gospel music, and most all, praying.

And then, in the spring of 2020, God led me to create a community on Instagram called “Dope Woman of God”, little did I know that DWG was going to become a safe space for women to be encouraged on their journey with God.

Dope Woman of God is an outlet for women who need encouragement, motivation, inspiration, and reminder that God uses everything for good. God does not waste pain, He turns it into purpose. And in the purpose, there is a beautiful testimony and a story waiting to be told and to help someone else. That is what Dope Woman of God stands for, the resilience through the trials and tests of life, God is still good.

I realized that this was the purpose all along, sometimes we have to go through the pain to experience the joy. I never would have started DWG if it wasn’t for the heartbreak I went through.

By sharing my story, women are able to relate and this can help by setting them free because I am still standing today because of the goodness of God and I am forever thankful to God.

In 2021, I received my life coaching certification, and I have recently launched the DWG Prayer Journal which was received with great feedback. I plan to expand DWG as a household name and continue to build my business into a highly successful company that gives back to women.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My story has not been smooth at all. Coming from a Christian household and becoming a single mother was hard but it was a decision that I made and I wouldn’t if I had to. But the time I made that decision it was hard because I knew things would change for my daughter but by the grace of God, 5 years later she has become the best little angel I could ever ask for. I wanted my daughter to have a healthy environment so I made the decision to step away from the negativity.

When I lost my brother, it was devastating, I struggled with guilt because it felt unfair that I got to still be here and he wasn’t. He was only 29 years old and we talked about growing old together as siblings and the fact that he will miss out definitely hurt me more than anything.

For the longest time, I struggled with brokenness, self-love, wanting to please everyone, and worried about what people would say about me and my situation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In 2020, I created Dope Woman of God on Instagram. I knew that God was calling me to start this space to show women that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. At DWG our slogan is “Pray, Believe, Watch God Work”

Launching the DWG Journal was purposeful because when women buy from DWG, 10 percent of all proceeds will be allocated to the Dope Women of God Funds coming this fall. The fund encourages women to walk in their Kingdom identity by pursuing their God-given purpose. Grants will be awarded each Fall & Spring to help women start their faith-based businesses.

DWG will also be expanding by launching merchandise soon and proceeds will be allocated to the fund as well.

I know what it feels like not to have anything, I came from poverty and I want to be able to give back to help women.

I am a life coach, a Christian influencer, and a business owner and I am so proud to say that.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being a woman of God is one quality that is important to my success. Not only that, coming from a poor country and having to struggle most of my life. I learned how to be humble and truly see people for who they are and not just judge them based on looks. I am very passionate about meeting people and encouraging them by sharing life experiences and stories. I pride myself on being genuine, supportive, and accommodating others and I am always putting other people’s needs before my own. Lastly, I love to give back and pour into others by seeing the good in them and always smiling no matter the circumstance.
