Meet Zach Kennedy of zkennedy in Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Kennedy.

Zach, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a bit late to the party musically, only deciding to pursue songwriting seriously once I had gotten to college in Oklahoma. After two years there, I decided to move to Nashville and spent four years learning the many faces of the music business and what it meant to have a career in the industry. I was still finding my identity as an artist and I decided, somewhat on a whim, to move to Houston in the fall of 2015. I was unsure exactly why I had made the move but I knew it felt right to me. I’ve since met some incredible people who have shaped how I approach songwriting and helped me find my voice as an artist.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You’ll learn pretty quickly that if music isn’t embedded someplace deep within you, it’s not generally a journey worth making. When I sit down to write songs, it feels like wrestling a 700-pound gorilla more than it feels like waiting for a melody to drop from the sky. I’ve got to sit there and fight with it, reason with it, build it up and tear it down and eventually, something listenable rises out of the mess. The high I get when I complete that process, keep me going even when the road isn’t as smooth as I’d like.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the zkennedy story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a musical artist under the moniker zkennedy. I specialize in the weaving of pop, rock, and r&b to form my own unique blend of song.

I plan to release my debut material summer 2018.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do feel extremely lucky to have fallen within certain circumstances along my path. I’ve made sure that I continue to better myself so that when I do find myself in the right place at the right time, I’m prepared to take advantage of it. You can be the most talented artist in the world and have no serendipitous crossroads or you could always find yourself in front of the right people but never quite prepared. I find there is an element of both hard work and luck.
