Today we’d like to introduce you to Zainab Rangwala.
Hi Zainab, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Henna Journey
My journey with henna began at a very young age—just 10 years old. I’ve always been passionate about art in its many forms, from painting on fabric to creating detailed pieces on paper and turning them into framed artwork. That love for creativity naturally drew me to the art of henna.
My biggest inspiration has been my mother, who not only encouraged me to explore different forms of art but also taught me the basics of henna. Her guidance and support helped shape my skills and passion for this beautiful tradition.
I’ve been professionally doing henna for the past 21 years, and over time, I’ve expanded my work to include:
Bridal henna
Corporate events
School and college functions
Non-profit events
Belly art
Henna crowns
Bridal and birthday parties
All kinds of celebrations
Henna is more than just an art form to me. It’s deeply spiritual—it’s believed to bring joy, blessings, and positive energy. It also provides a sense of relaxation and calmness to both the artist and the person receiving it.
Every design I create carries meaning, tradition, and love, and I feel grateful to be able to share this art with others in so many unique and meaningful ways.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always—it’s definitely been a journey with its own challenges.
One of the biggest aspects is preparation. When clients request specific elements in their henna—like bride and groom figures, skylines, or meaningful symbols from their love story—I often need to practice the design beforehand to ensure it’s perfect. These custom requests require creativity, precision, and a deep understanding of what the client wants.
Creating symmetrical and intricate designs can also be challenging, especially when working on hands or body parts that naturally move or curve. Getting those details right takes a lot of patience, skill, and practice.
Some clients even use henna as a “trial run” before getting a real tattoo, so the pressure to deliver a design that truly resonates with them is high. Meeting each client’s unique vision and style requires not just talent but continuous learning and dedication to the art.
Despite the challenges, these experiences have helped me grow and pushed me to become better with each design.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal henna and am known as a bridal henna artist, creating detailed and customized designs that often include meaningful elements like bride and groom figures, peacocks, lotuses, and other symbols that reflect each couple’s journey. One of my strengths is creating these intricate designs both efficiently and beautifully, even under time pressure.
What sets me apart is my speed, precision, and creativity. Whether it’s a large group event or a personal bridal session, I can create unique, detailed designs quickly without sacrificing quality. I also take pride in my versatility—beyond traditional henna on hands and feet, I create henna art on:
Candles
Canvas
Phone covers
Purses
And many other surfaces
Every day brings a new client and a new design challenge, and that’s what I love most. I pour my heart into every piece and am proud of how I tailor each design to fit the client’s vision.
I’m also committed to high-quality service. I use the best natural henna products that are safe and long-lasting. I provide aftercare instructions, work within the client’s budget, and adjust to timings that suit their schedule. I travel for events and work long hours—often without breaks—because ensuring my clients are happy is my top priority.
From bridal parties and baby showers to corporate events and nonprofit gatherings, I bring beautiful, meaningful henna to all kinds of celebrations. My goal is to create not just designs, but lasting memories through the art of henna.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around creativity and learning. I always loved creating art, reading books, and exploring my interest in math and accounting. I enjoyed doing handwork on clothes, making crochet pieces, and experimenting with different forms of art and crafts. Those moments of creating something beautiful with my hands and expressing myself through art are memories I still cherish deeply today.
