Meet Zaira Ramirez- Wolff of El Patio aka “Club No Minors” in Tanglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaira Ramirez- Wolff.

Zaira, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started working in 2007 as a server in about three months after doing almost every position in the restaurant, I was offer a management position. It was a big challenge since I had management skills but it was my first restaurant job. In this 10 years I have learned a lot and I must say that I fell in love with the industry and with this restaurant. I come to work every day to the same place but guarantee to always see different faces and serve some great food to many people. In 2011 I was offered the GM position and I was excited to make some changes that I believed needed to be made. We changed the tamales and flour tortillas recipe to my grandmother and went back to the original root of serving everything made from scratch and daily and we been keeping the crowds coming. We support Our City, Our Community and the Houston Live Stock Rodeo. I love the Friday madness with all our kids going crazy dancing with the mariachis is my favorite day to work. The Club No Minors is like no other. You can be sure you will have fun there even if you’re working.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our challenge is always remaining relevant. You don’t become a 50+ Year Houston Tradition overnight, that’s for sure!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
El Patio is a Houston Tradition. On any given Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, you can see multiple generations of the same family dining in the restaurant or in The Club. For many families in the Memorial, Briargrove and Tanglewood areas, EP is a neighborhood restaurant that families visit on a weekly basis. El Patio specializes in traditional Tex Mex favorites that are made from scratch every day. The restaurant is famous or “infamous” rather for their Blue Margaritas with their signature color and potent taste. Our tiny “Club No Minors” is one of the most famous places in Houston for having a great time with friends. We have LIVE mariachis play there every weekend on Friday and Saturday nights. You can often find people dancing in the aisles and on tables. The other things that we are very proud of and adds to our tradition, is the items on our menu from the Original Felix Mexican Restaurant in old Montrose. We have people who still come to our restaurant just to order those items, like the famous “Felix Queso”.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Tex-Mex is probably the “un-official” cuisine of Houston, so it’s no wonder that our restaurant has stayed so popular for such a long time (53 years). Houston is an amazing melting pot of people from all over the world. There is something here for everyone.
