Mela, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business? 
The often-overlooked aspect of event rental, planning, and decor design services is the extensive effort that goes on behind the scenes. While the services may seem straightforward, they entail countless late nights and meticulous preparation to ensure events run seamlessly. For planning a significant amount of time is dedicated to coordinating with clients, especially when it comes to finalizing timelines for day-of coordination services.

When it comes to our luxury rentals, our team invests considerable time and effort in loading, delivering, and setting up the items, ensuring everything is perfectly in place. After a long event, we then return to the client’s location to retrieve the rentals and transport them back to our warehouse for proper storage. These behind-the-scenes tasks often go unnoticed, but they are critical components that require substantial time and dedication from our team.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Events By Clark is a premier luxury event company based in the Houston, Texas area, dedicated to offering our clients a comprehensive, all-inclusive experience, making us a true one-stop shop for all their event needs. Our range of services includes partial planning, day-of coordination, luxury rentals, and exquisite design and decor tailored specifically for our clients.

What sets us apart from other luxury event companies in Houston is our ability to offer a variety of services beyond just decor design. We provide carefully curated packages for clients who desire a complete decor design experience while also incorporating our luxurious rental options. Over the years, our company has evolved from focusing solely on day-of coordination services to becoming a full-service event solution, ensuring that every aspect of our clients’ events is handled with the utmost care and expertise.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
One of my dearest friends from the DC area, whom I’ve known for over 13 years, has always believed in my vision for this company. From the very beginning, she has been a steadfast supporter, and she was actually the first client for whom I organized a full luxury event—a charming baby shower with a sweet pea theme. She consistently encouraged me, expressing her belief in the potential for this company to flourish, especially after I made the move to Houston. Her unwavering faith in my journey has truly helped manifest the growth and endless possibilities that lie ahead.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, every entrepreneur experiences moments of doubt and the temptation to give up, especially when faced with the inconsistencies that can come with this line of work. While we are not yet operating this as a full-time endeavor, it remains a deep passion for us, and we aspire to grow it into something more substantial.

There are times when the unpredictable nature of events can be challenging, but we always remind ourselves of the joy this work brings us. Keeping our eyes on the bigger picture—the potential for what this company can achieve in the future—drives us to persevere. That vision fuels our commitment and passion, motivating us to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles we encounter.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
When it comes to decor design for our clients, we truly depend on them to share their vision for the event. Understanding their aspirations and preferences is crucial, as it allows us to bring their ideas to life. Without a clear sense of what they envision and how they wish to see it reflected on their special day, execution becomes challenging.

To kick off the process with every client, we begin by asking, “What is your vision?” and “What are your overall design expectations?” This foundational conversation helps us align our creativity with their desires, ensuring that we can craft a memorable and personalized experience that truly reflects their style and wishes.

I find the greatest sense of peace when I am praying and doing things that make me relax. Through my experiences, I’ve learned the importance of prioritizing self-care. For me, that often means enjoying solitary walks or treating myself to a day at my local spa or nail salon. Taking these moments to pamper myself is essential, as it allows me to recharge and show up for myself just as fully as I do for my clients and family. Balancing my personal well-being with my commitments is key to maintaining harmony in all aspects of my life.
