Mery Ford, Owner of Viking Braids

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mery Ford

Hi Mery, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my Viking Braiding business after searching for braiding places that specialized in Viking style braids. After many failed attempts, I decided to do braiding styles independently.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far it’s been what I make it to be. The struggles have been finding indoor venues with air conditioning and getting the word out there about what I do. I haven’t found anyone that does the braid styles I do in my area.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a Fine Arts/Visual Communications degree and have been doing design and leading teams for over 16 years.

I recently stepped away from doing design and ventured out on my own doing Viking Braiding. It’s a tangible art and I’m loving it! The best part of what I do is seeing my client’s reactions to their hair after it’s done. It’s like they feel renewed, like a new person. It’s awesome to watch.

The braids I specialize in are Viking and Festival/Rave style braids. Every client has a different need or want so I encourage them to bring me inspirational pictures of what they want and we make a plan together. It could be anything from a few side braids with a specific color to a full braided look.

What sets me apart from others is that there isn’t anyone doing braid styles like me. Hair braiding is a skill and talent that has to be mastered. Most braiders focus on textured hair but I’m focusing on non-textured hair and creating many different styles. Believe it or not, your average hair stylist can’t braid! It’s crazy right? lol

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Going to the beach in California! I lived there for a few years as a teenager and the beach was my favorite place to go! Times change and the beaches are not like they used to be but I still have the memories.

Freeport, TX, or Quintana Beach Park is where I go now. Going to the beach and being in the ocean is still my favorite. I love being out there with a good book, smelling all of the smells (lol) people watching, and listening to the waves! If I could afford a beachfront property, I’d have one in a sec! LOL

Pricing:

  • Sure my prices start at $20 for a single Dutch or French braid and the prices go up from there depending on what they want.
