Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Rogers.
Hi Aaron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“Well.. I am Aaron Rogers, also known as GetItRogers,.. Right, the name.. I know. I’m a San Bernardino native, as of now based out of Houston, TX. I label myself a creative because I enjoy participating in arts of all forms, the main way I express my art is with dancing, music and melodies.. Does that make me an artist? I don’t know, you tell me. Entertaining has always been a thing of mine growing up, rather if it was plays, music videos, dancing or making up my own poems and songs. I come from a family where Christian roots run deep, so there I was in church singing and or performing for any crowd that would pay attention. I remember being 10 years old writing poems or trying to make up my own choreography, thinking that it’ll all come to use one day. For some reason growing up I was that kid that just knew I had to be famous, Phew! Glad I outgrew that phase. I moved from California when I was 17 to pursue my college career as a student-athlete in Kansas City, Missouri. Being from California I didn’t know too much about Kansas City until I got there, I ended up discovering there were many dope artists, and creatives with great visions. During college, it became my mission to do the groundwork. Learn as much as I can. Music Wise.. although I got an education and a chance to play football I would be lying if I said that was my main focus. My imagination wavered a bit when it came to tying in real life and what it looked like to chase your dream on a daily basis. I’d say I started to become logical instead of honing in on the reason I started in the first place. In 2017, I released my first track, “DND”. Recording and engineering the single in my college dorm room after years of letting the thought only weigh as a dream. By simply taking that first step there to share my voice/ music with the world, it sparked the motivation within me to achieve my best form. I was exposed to more opportunities after I graduated college which allowed me to perform in the historic Jazz district and creatively direct some of my best music videos. I moved to Houston about a year ago with the intention to be closer to family and grow within the Houston music realm. A lot of the people I have crossed paths with along to where I am now have served a great purpose into building my dynamic. Although I’m far from where I want to be, I know I have a good sense of foundation and a team behind me to turn my dreams into a reality. My older brother Anthony who I consider a music guru, played a big role early on in my inspiration. Not only was I able to see the process of how music comes together but also see where it could take you. I’d say I had a perfect person to look up to.. I am a “Momma’s Boy” at heart, her belief in me early on sparked the confidence within me to pursue whatever I wanted in life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most of my struggles come outside of music, it’s never an easy road when dealing with life… OR.. Overthinking, I find myself in my head too much.. considering every little detail. I have to remind myself to let go and let God, I am the only one directly experiencing my journey. Part of why I’m so persistent on staying authentic. It can be discouraging at times when you feel like your voice isn’t being heard, even more of a reason to work harder and stay consistent. We are in a time where social media can make and break some people, it was a brief time where I was not sure on how to properly market myself, my message, or my music. I’ve engineered all my music so I’d find myself having to lean on patience which was something I had to learn. Lots of trial and error moments but moments to learn from. I believe as long as you don’t give up on yourself in the process you are on the right path.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Artist, dancer, engineer, graphic designer.
Something that sets me apart from others is my willingness to always be a student. I am a versatile artist/creative, my ability to bring entertainment to the forefront of when it comes to performing has to be one of my greatest attributes. I am most proud of the fact I remain authentic within myself when creating never giving the perception of wanting to be anyone else but me. Dancing and coming up with unique melodies withholding meaningful lyrics is my specialty
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see myself continuing to grow on the path God has ordained for me. Surrounding myself with like minded peers, and placing myself within spaces that give me the opportunities to grow not only as a creative but as a person. I will be working within my plan of inspiring and innovating different ways to express my creative vision. I know there are great opportunities on the roads ahead of me. I have an idea of success in my head but for now, I am taking things a day at a time and focusing on consistency and the things within my life that I can control. I will continue to be a student, there is always room to learn.
