Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Magdaleno.
Alexa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My mother and I lost our jobs back in late 2019, so we had to think of a quick solution. As we started to brainstorm, her dream was always of opening up an Ice cream shop and mine of a bar so as weeks passed by, we met halfway and decided on a Michelada Bar that also had kid items in the menu. A place where families could all enjoy a little something on the menu. We started the process in November of 2019, and we’re finally able to open in March of 2020.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for us. We opened up back in March of 2020. We planned for a big Grand Opening and for our business to be full of customers inside. However, that week was also one week before COVID restrictions started. So we were left with no Grand Opening, and we were only able to open for Carryout orders for months ahead. Thankfully our community was still very supportive during these hard times and didn’t let us give up on our dream.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our business targets every crowd in our community, from dads stopping to pick up a Michelada at the end of a busy day at work to the whole family coming to spend a Sundays evening at our establishment. That’s what sets us apart from other Michelada spots in our city, everyone is welcome and we make it a safe place for everyone in our city. As part of the LGBTQ+ community, we hope our place is a safe place for everyone to be who they are and that is what we are most proud of. Our proudest moment is being able to open up another location in our city, with our grand opening coming soon, located at 376 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77090.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being a part of a struggle, a struggle that you can look back on and enjoy every step of the way while climbing to achieve your goals.
