Rising Stars: Meet Alicia Hill of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Hill

Hi Alicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Alicia Hill. I grow up on the north side of Milwaukee, WI. Growing up I was an active child. I played sports and would sing dance. I sang in a talent show in elementary. I was in the 3rd grade at Lancaster Elementary. I remember it like it was yesterday. Bright lights, a crowd of people and my best friend at the time was present. It was a duet with my best friend and I singing Aaliyah “ I miss you”. It was so beautiful and we won third place. After that I started to play basketball. I cared for that as well but it was something about music that always took ahold of me every time. In high school I stopped basketball and started working. My parents were on drugs and I had to take care of my self. My first job was at McDonald’s. I graduated high school and went on and had my two sons. I started writing music at 24yrs old while working in healthcare. I created my first music video at 26yrs old and a lot of people liked it. I haven’t given up since. Now at 30yrs old I see my self becoming famous and creating music for the lover, heartbreaks and independent individuals. It has been a ride that I am in love with to this day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It haven’t been a smooth ride at all. My parents were on drugs. My grandma was too old to really be apart of a healthy environment. Abuse in different ways in my life have been a major part in my struggle.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a musician. I sing rap and dance. I am known for my beautiful singing voice and my creative music writing. I am most proud of how I continue to stay strong when life gets tough. What sets me apart from others is I create music from the soul I sing from the soul and I love what I do. I honestly believe it’s my calling.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Most important lesson I have learned on this Journey is to be honest with my wants and needs and voice my opinion without angry. Also that God is on my side through it all and I will make it with him on this path with me.
