Rising Stars: Meet Alicia Williams

Hi Alicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for makeup. Starting way back in my early days being the only 6-year-old running around with bright red lipstick that I begged my mother to buy me from the dollar store. Luckily for me, I learned to match my tones and perfect my base. Soon after my peers began to want me to try and recreate the looks I did on myself for them during prom, baby showers, and birthdays. Living in a small town in California helped my start off as word of mouth was my beginning network basis. From there I decided to expand by starting my YouTube and Instagram pages dedicated to beauty and lifestyle.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The beauty world is a rollercoaster. When I started full glam was the go to; the more layers the better. Then for a period of time, minimal makeup and natural beauty took the front row. Nowadays we want the full face that gives off the “I woke up like this” vibe. Let’s not forget the pandemic occurred and makeup was not the priority as people struggled to just maintain their everyday lives. So to say it has been a smooth road would be a huge false testimony. I myself even made it bumpier by having to take sabbaticals for both my mental health and family priorities. All and all I’m happy to be back in the game with new challenges in a brand new city.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since my relocation to Houston, I have not been able to restock my clientele products just yet. So I have been doing what I call makeup coaching. Think of the phrase “teach a man to fish..” as the saying goes. I am looking into starting makeup courses to teach the everyday person to achieve the makeup looks they love to see on social media and television. I know others provide courses to teach other makeup artists their techniques but I like to pinpoint my focus on teaching the banker who has a reunion coming up or the realtor wanting to take new headshots how to save themselves a few dollars by being able to create their own masterpiece at home. I also take those same lessons and transverse them to my YouTube channel so if you’re like myself who’s a visual learner you can rewatch the tutorial as many times as you need to get it perfect.

What’s next?
One day in the (hopefully near) future you’re going to see my face on a billboard when you’re headed to the Galleria downtown or to the beaches in Galveston. I’ll be hosting major masterclasses with the best makeup artists from all over who are going to teach individual makeup courses on a mass scale. The best part is they’ll be using makeup products from my own personal brand (another dream!). I able optimistic that my YouTube channel will have compensated for my day job so I can focus on living that dream out full time and provide the best version on myself for all future endeavors.
