Today we’d like to introduce you to Allicia Wiley.
Hi Allicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born with a rare congenital heart condition called Heterotaxy, and just three days after I was born, I had to have a pacemaker implanted. Growing up, my childhood looked a lot different than most. I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals, dealing with various health complications that caused me to miss a significant amount of school. Because of that, I struggled academically, especially with learning how to read, and I was eventually held back a grade so I could receive the education and support I needed.
Although it was difficult at the time, that extra year ended up changing my life in the best way. As my reading skills improved, I slowly began to fall in love with books. From third through fifth grade, I was obsessed with the Dork Diaries series. Those books helped me realize that reading could be fun instead of something I feared, and they gave me confidence that I had never felt before.
As I got older, I discovered the storytelling app Episode, where I became completely immersed in romance stories. That was my introduction to the romance genre, and I instantly fell in love with the emotional, character-driven stories. They gave me an escape from the challenges I faced growing up and sparked a passion that has stayed with me ever since.
Around the age of 17, I discovered the adult romance book community on TikTok, and it honestly felt like I had found my people. It opened up a whole new world of books, authors, and readers that I never knew existed. I quickly became hooked and started reading as many romance novels as I could get my hands on.
My love for books eventually inspired me to create both a BookTok and Bookstagram account called @a.w.antha, where I share reviews, recommendations, and my thoughts on the books I’ve read. I also love creating content about book-to-screen adaptations, whether they’re movies or TV shows, and connecting with other readers who are just as passionate about stories as I am.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come. Reading started as something I struggled with because of my health, but it has become one of the biggest passions in my life. Books have given me comfort, confidence, friendships, and a creative outlet I never expected. Today, I’m grateful to be part of such an incredible book community, and I love being able to share my reading journey with others while encouraging people to discover stories they might fall in love with too.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My biggest challenge has always been my health. Being born with Heterotaxy meant spending much of my childhood in and out of hospitals, attending doctor’s appointments, and recovering from medical procedures. Because I missed so much school, I struggled to keep up academically, especially with reading. At one point, I had to be held back a grade so I could catch up and build the foundation I had missed. As a child, that was difficult to understand, and I often felt like I was behind everyone else.
Over time, though, I realized that being held back wasn’t a setback—it was exactly what I needed. It gave me the opportunity to learn at my own pace, and that’s when I truly discovered my love for reading. Something that once felt impossible became one of my greatest passions.
As I began creating content on BookTok and Bookstagram, I faced a different kind of challenge. Starting from zero and putting yourself out there online can be intimidating. Building an audience takes time, consistency, and patience, and there are moments when it’s easy to compare yourself to larger creators. But I remind myself why I started in the first place: because I genuinely love books and want to share that passion with others.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My goal is to help readers discover their next favorite book while also creating a welcoming space where people can connect over a shared love of reading.
One thing I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown since I first started. I built my platforms from the ground up through consistency, creativity, and a genuine passion for books. Behind every post is time spent reading, planning content, filming, editing videos, writing reviews, and engaging with my community. It’s something I truly enjoy, and I love knowing that my recommendations have encouraged people to pick up books they may not have discovered otherwise.
I think what sets me apart is my authenticity. I only recommend books I genuinely enjoy, and I strive to make my content feel honest, relatable, and engaging. I don’t just talk about popular books—I share my real thoughts, celebrate both well-known and indie authors, and enjoy discussing the emotions, characters, and stories that stay with me long after I finish a book.
What makes this journey even more meaningful is knowing where it all began. Reading was once something I struggled with because of my health and the amount of school I missed growing up. Now, it’s become one of the biggest passions in my life and something I get to share with thousands of other readers. Being able to inspire someone to fall in love with reading, discover a new favorite author, or feel like they’re part of a community is what I’m most proud of, and it’s what motivates me to keep creating every day.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of my family. They’ve always believed in me, encouraged me, and celebrated every milestone along the way, no matter how big or small.
More than anyone, I have to give credit to my mom. She has been my biggest supporter for my entire life. Since I was born with Heterotaxy, she’s been by my side through every hospital stay, doctor’s appointment, surgery, and challenge I’ve faced. She has always encouraged me to keep going, even during the moments when I wanted to give up.
Her support goes far beyond my health. Whether it’s my passion for creating bookish content or my goal of becoming a nurse, she’s always been my biggest cheerleader. She’s the first person to celebrate my accomplishments, encourage my dreams, and remind me that I can do anything I set my mind to. Having someone who believes in you unconditionally makes all the difference.
I’m also incredibly grateful for the amazing book community I’ve become a part of. The authors, fellow creators, and readers I’ve connected with have made this journey so rewarding. Their encouragement, kindness, and support continue to inspire me to keep creating content and sharing my love of books.
At the end of the day, I know I wouldn’t have accomplished everything I have on my own. My family’s unwavering support—especially my mom’s—has given me the strength and confidence to overcome every obstacle, pursue my dreams, and continue building a community around something I truly love.
