Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Amanda Jones, and here’s a little about my journey.
I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, but after high school I moved to Houston to attend Texas Southern University. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the city, and Houston has felt like home ever since. I graduated from TSU with a degree in Early Childhood Education because I’ve always had a passion for serving others and being a positive influence in the communities around me.
My career began with an educational nonprofit called Citizen Schools, where I worked alongside schools in Houston to help bridge learning and opportunity gaps for students. That experience reinforced my belief that education can truly change lives and inspired me to continue growing as an educator.
After my time with Citizen Schools, I moved to New Orleans, where I spent six years teaching in various charter school organizations. Those years helped shape me both professionally and personally, allowing me to develop my leadership skills and deepen my commitment to educational equity.
Eventually, I felt called back to Houston and joined YES Prep Public Schools, where I currently serve as an educator and leader. Returning to Houston felt like coming full circle—I was able to continue doing meaningful work while serving the city that helped shape me.
Outside of education, I began building my presence as a content creator. Fashion has always been a passion of mine, and content creation gave me a creative outlet beyond the classroom. Through my platform, I share fashion, lifestyle, and travel content while encouraging women to embrace confidence and express themselves authentically. What started as a hobby has grown into opportunities to collaborate with brands and connect with people from all walks of life.
Today, I’m proud to balance both worlds—education and content creation. While they may seem very different, both allow me to do what I love most: inspire, connect with others, and make a positive impact in my community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey definitely hasn’t been smooth. There have been plenty of trials and tribulations along the way, but I believe those experiences are what make life’s journey so meaningful. Challenges create opportunities to learn, grow, and ultimately build the testimony that shapes who you become.
Working in education is not always glamorous. There are long hours, increasing demands, and challenges that many people never see. As a result, many talented educators have chosen to leave the profession due to burnout, compensation concerns, or the constant pressures they face. While I understand those struggles, I have chosen to stay because of the passion and purpose I feel for serving students.
Pouring into the next generation is more than a career for me—it’s a calling. Knowing that I have the opportunity to positively impact a child’s life, help them discover their potential, and be a source of encouragement keeps me motivated even on the difficult days. The challenges have strengthened my resilience, deepened my commitment, and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I’ve shared, I wear two hats that I’m incredibly passionate about—I’m an educator and a content creator.
As an educator, I have dedicated my career to helping students grow academically and personally, while also serving as a leader within my school community. Education is my purpose, and I take great pride in making a positive impact on the lives of young people.
Outside of the classroom, I have built a platform as a fashion, lifestyle, and travel content creator. My content creation journey started unexpectedly. I was preparing for a trip to Rome to celebrate my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary and began sharing some of the outfits I had curated for the trip. My content creator coach, Tempestt, encouraged me to start creating reels featuring my outfits and travel experiences. That simple push gave me the confidence I needed, and I haven’t looked back since.
What I’m most proud of is stepping outside of my comfort zone and showing up as my authentic self. Building a platform can feel intimidating, especially when you’re putting yourself out there for the world to see, but I’ve learned that authenticity resonates with people. Seeing my community grow and connect with my content has been incredibly rewarding.
One piece of advice I always share is: just post the content. You never know who is watching, who you might inspire, or what opportunities may come from simply being yourself.
What sets me apart is my personality, determination, and work ethic. Whether I’m in the classroom or creating content, I give everything I do my full effort. I’m driven by a desire to be the best version of myself and to continuously grow. That level of commitment can be both a gift and a challenge at times, but it’s a big part of who I am. At the end of the day, I believe people connect with genuine passion, and that’s exactly what I bring to everything I do.
