Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Migues of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Migues.

Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I fell in love with photography at the age of 12. In junior high I wasn’t the best athlete or a great musician. But I had the ability to see people and the world around me, like art. And being able to capture that and share it with others…that was magical.

I spent 9 years working in special education and taught in Katy ISD. After having my own children I became a stay at home mom. In 2021 my photography went from a hobby to profession as I created my business. My goal was to help other moms have stress free, fun family sessions with their little ones.

Over the last few years that blossomed into branding photography as well. Many of those parents run their own business and needed headshots, social media content, product photography, etc. that accurately reflected their brand and mission.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I doubt anyone who starts a business would say they’ve had it easy! Eventually, the struggle was finding new clients beyond word of mouth. I found putting myself out there regularly has made a huge difference. Social media has been a big factor. Not only “following” other users and businesses, but interacting with them in a genuine way. Also finding local networking groups has been an awesome way to connect as well. Meeting local entrepreneurs like myself has been so motivating.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a family and branding photographer. My goal is to make the process for my clients as easy as possible. I always say I want to bring their vision to life!

Whether it’s providing wardrobe consultation for a family session or scouting ideal locations for a branding session, I love putting in that extra effort.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I can’t say enough about local networking groups. You can find many of them via social media. Not only are they a way to meet potential new clients, but they are a great support. Having other entrepreneurs hustling along side you is invaluable.
