Rising Stars: Meet Amber Ambrose of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Ambrose.

Hi Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I picked up my first tarot deck around 2012, when I was a food writer and had a three-year-old daughter. Initially, I was scared of the cards, with many featuring scenes of swords and devils and death. However, my curiosity was louder than my fear, and so I began to slowly make friends with the deck, starting with daily one-card readings. I literally used “Tarot for Dummies” for the first few years to help me interpret. Fast forward to 2016 when I had a second daughter and my home flooded for the first time. A year and a half later, it would flood again in Hurricane Harvey. Just a few months before Harvey, I had started a content marketing and copywriting business and asked my one and only contract employee if she would like to become a partner, since I truly needed her support during the challenging life events. This would become a very important part of my story. Three years later, in 2020, COVID-19 hit our business hard and we lost many clients, forcing me to take stock of my life yet again. My gracious business partner agreed to buy me out of the business and I had no plans for what to do next. She happened to get married in the fall of 2021, just as I was exiting the company. Knowing I dabbled in tarot, she asked me to read tarot at her wedding reception. The rest, they say, is history. I’ve been reading tarot professionally ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been smooth in that I have deeply loved this practice and also find so much joy in the journey of learning that has unfolded. The struggles, of course, are also present in my lack of patience in finding balance between family life and promoting my tarot services. Thankfully, it has been gradual, steady growth in clientele, and now I’m ready for the next level.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional tarot practitioner where most of my business is one-on-one readings. I am known for tarot readings that have the intent of empowering people, not scaring them. I approach readings with a deep respect and use them as a therapeutic tool for awareness, not fortune telling.

I am known for sessions that leave people feeling lighter, freer and validated. It is my goal to be an ambassador for tarot and embody its healing and therapeutic power.

Tarot Bingo is also something I love doing to teach basic meanings of all the cards in a fun, entertaining way.

Birthday tarot is also something I am known for: Love offering a daily birthday message on Instagram for anyone born on that day.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I really enjoy @SpiralSeaTarot, @OakMoonTarot on Instagram – they both have unique perspectives on the craft. Early in my journey, I also leaned in on LearnTarot.org quite a bit. They have easy to understand interpretations and are a great free resource. My biggest resource is life itself: The more I experience, the deeper the meaning of the cards becomes.
