Rising Stars: Meet Amber Mole of Philadelphia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Mole.

Hi Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path to birth work began after spending six years in corporate accounting. While I valued the skills I gained in business and finance, I felt called to make a more direct impact in people’s lives. In 2023, I transitioned into the perinatal field and founded The Doula Cheerleader, LLC, where I provide birth and postpartum care, education, and advocacy throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been witnessing the ripple effect of the work. One of my former clients was so inspired by her postpartum experience that she became a doula herself. Moments like that reinforce my belief that empowering one person can create lasting change within a community.
My background in accounting and business management has also allowed me to contribute to the profession in a unique way. Through continuing education courses and training workshops, I teach financial literacy and business fundamentals, equipping doulas with the tools to build sustainable practices, strengthen their financial foundations, and thrive in their work.

As the 2025 DONA International IMPACT Program Chairperson, I also have the privilege of mentoring emerging doulas. Having graduated from the program myself, it is especially meaningful to help cultivate the confidence, skills, and leadership of the next generation of birth professionals.

Today, I combine my experience in business, education, and birth work to provide evidence-based information, encourage movement and overall wellbeing, and help families navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with confidence. Through The Doula Cheerleader, LLC, I am honored to cheer people on through transformative life experiences, following my God-given calling to support, educate, and advocate for others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have been fortunate to enter a profession where so many dedicated doulas and birth workers have already done tremendous work advocating for greater recognition, equity, and access to care. Their efforts have helped create opportunities that may not have existed years ago.

That said, the road has not always been smooth. One challenge has been navigating healthcare environments where providers may not fully understand or embrace the role of a doula. At times, hospital policies have limited my ability to support clients during critical moments, such as before a cesarean birth or while they are in the operating room.

Some of the most difficult challenges, however, extend beyond birth itself. Many families face social determinants of health that impact their pregnancy and postpartum experiences, including housing instability, transportation barriers, limited access to quality healthcare, and experiences with providers who dismiss their concerns. As a doula, I often find myself helping clients navigate systems that were not designed to meet their needs equitably.

These experiences have reinforced why advocacy is such an important part of my work. While I cannot solve every barrier a family faces, I can help ensure they feel heard, informed, and supported as they navigate their journey. They have also inspired me to complete Community Health Worker training and continue pursuing additional certifications that allow me to better connect families with resources, navigate complex systems, and address barriers that impact maternal and infant health outcomes.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator, specializing in supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with a focus on informed decision-making, advocacy, and compassionate, individualized care. I am known for my calm presence, education-centered approach, and ability to support families as they navigate both clinical settings and the social challenges that can impact their care.

Alongside my doula work, I am an aerial yoga teacher, Intro to Dance instructor, and a company member with Danse4Nia Phoenix Danse. What I am most proud is watching the individuals I support feeling more connected to their bodies and more confident in themselves.

What sets me apart is the way I integrate these worlds. My background in accounting and business allows me to also support doulas through financial literacy education and business training, helping them build sustainable practices. Whether I am supporting a family in labor, guiding someone through their first aerial class, teaching foundational dance, or performing with Phoenix Danse Academy, my work is always centered on empowerment, embodiment, and care.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very bubbly, outgoing, and full of big dreams. I was naturally drawn to movement and physical activity, with a strong interest in dance, fitness, swimming, and tennis. I’ve always enjoyed being active and expressing myself through my body from a young age. I would walk to my local YMCA to attend kids’ fitness classes, and I was also a member of my neighborhood cheerleading team.

In high school, I became deeply curious about birth after watching the birth of a child during a sex education class. That experience stayed with me and sparked an early fascination with the beauty, complexity, and power of bringing life into the world—something I didn’t yet realize would later become a central part of my calling.
