Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Parrish
Hi Amber, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About four years ago, a high school friend of my sister’s asked if I would be willing to take photos of her son’s first birthday party since she knew that I had been into photography. Of course I was nervous, but I agreed. I had forgotten how much I loved taking pictures until I did that party for her. It was then that I decided to pursue it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think that anything business related ever comes without its struggles. Finding a look that you like for photography is so important, but can be difficult to narrow down. Finding clients to work with that trust you and your vision. It’s always hard when you see so many people achieving the same goal, especially with social media these days, but it’s so important to remember that everyone has their own journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a lifestyle and wedding photographer. I really love working with families over and over again and building that relationship. Some of my clients I have worked with for years and have seen them get married and have babies and watch those babies grow up. It’s a beautiful thing to get to capture someone else’s story for them. I am also a journalism teacher and I think that is what I have always been so drawn to, is the storytelling aspect of journalism and photography. That I have the opportunity to witness very impactful moments and capture those memories for people. I’ve always been a little reserved and shy, but with photography, that has allowed me to really pay attention and capture moments that people don’t even realize I was there to capture. I like to fade into the background and watch for those really spectacular moments, so that I can let the client relive that over and over again.
What matters most to you?
People and their stories. Their lives. It all goes by so fast, but everyone is important and should be recognized for the beautiful life and impact they have had.
