Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Rivera.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Charcutehtx came to fruition November of 2022 as a favor to some friends! Charcuterie boards are great conversation starters, and with Thanksgiving fast approaching, friends and family contacted me to make them a board of their own.
With support from my sister, who now handles our social media and content, and my mother, who assists me in preparing and packaging our orders, we work as a team to run this small business and passion project of mine.
We now offer our services to the greater Houston area and have had amazing opportunities to be a part of our clients’ special events and holidays. Just this past March, we catered our largest venue yet at the 2025 Houston Rodeo Cook Off with Turbine Heat BBQ Tent!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every business has to make mistakes to find out what works for them. We struggled a lot at the beginning with pricing our products and services to make a profit. Working with ingredients as finicky as ours led to a lot of unnecessary waste, but over time, we learned to balance our budget and to shop smarter without sacrificing quality.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Charcutehtx offers charcuterie cups, boards, and grazing tables to our clients. We operate year-round but find that holidays are usually our busiest days of the year!
I work as the charcuterie artist; all of our boards are designed and paired by me. We take inspiration from our client, whether they have a preference for certain colors or cheeses, and incorporate that into crafting a beautiful and original design for them.
The pairings we offer our clients are influenced by a multitude of factors like the season! Certain fruits are only available during the summer while certain cheeses are meant to be enjoyed in the winter, so our springtime boards often reflect the bright and colorful coming of spring while our November or December boards tend to look richer or moodier.
I am most proud of the growth of my designs. My work looks different when you compare a board from today to a board from a year ago. It means that we’re growing and only getting better!
How do you think about luck?
I believe I am very lucky to have clients who liked my work so much that they have recommended me to their family and friends. Our business grows by word of mouth, and our social media presence, so it is very heartwarming to have new clients all thanks to them.
