Rising Stars: Meet Angela Delgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Delgado.

Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am currently the title holder for Miss Humble Tx Latina 2023 in the pageant Miss Texas Latina, and my story began when I was a little girl who loved helping animals. My dad taught me to love and take care of animals; we would rescue small chickens, bunnies, goats, and cats from the side of the roads. Ever since I grew a sense of helping out animals that grew up abused from previous owners. One time my dad and I rescued a horse that was abused in the racing horse industry. We were able to give the horse proper care ever since and got them a new home that they’re now living a healthier lifestyle. For my reign, I want to share on social media about animal abuse and bring awareness on how we can help them. I have currently volunteered at animal sanctuaries around the Houston area and as well in the city of Humble. As well have recently rescued two strayed cats and given them food and a shelter to stay. I have always been passionate about animals, and during my reign, I want to be that voice for those animals that don’t have a voice. Ever since I joined the Miss Texas Latina pageant my mission as Miss Humble Latina, is to be an advocate for animals and have that same kindness with humans with animals as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I did struggle a lot being in the pageant, I would compare my platform to other girls’ platforms and think that what I am supporting is not really that important, not only that I struggle a lot mentally. I would often compare my appearance to other girls and would think that I am not that beautiful. I have mentally brought my self-esteem down many times. Sometimes I would feel ugly and not pretty, but this pageant really helped me to stop those negative thoughts about myself. They actually set up meetings to remind us that we are beautiful in our own way. That is something that I never thought that a pageant would do, they are very supportive of any platform, any cause that us girls support. For that, I am very thankful that the pageant, Miss Texas Latina, has helped me and supported my cause throughout this rocky road.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am very proud to be that girl to have compassion towards animals. I feel like nowadays not everyone is kind to animals, oftentimes they abuse them, and because of that I want to become that change, that help for animals. Because I am in a pageant, I feel like I can be that extra tool for them to bring awareness to their stories and that is something to be proud of. I have always been known to have so many pets since I was in school. A lot of times people are surprised when I tell them the many pets I had, and when I was a kid, I was never scared to be around animals, and till this day I’m not scared of any animal! I think being in the pageant definitely sets me apart from many people. I have always wanted to be different from the rest, and this is definitely one of the many things that sets me apart. Even though I am in a pageant, with all the photoshoots and the glam, I am always willing to help out a stray animal.

Any big plans?
I am very excited for the future because I have always dreamed of owning my own land, having ranch animals like horses, pigs, cows, even bunnies. With that land, I want to create a sanctuary for rescued animals, domestic or wild animals that suffered from abuse, and I want to bring them peace and comfort, as well as a new home. That is my big plan for the future. I don’t see many Latinas in the state of Texas that have their own land, so I want to be one of the many women of color that own land and use it for a good cause. I hope I can change and influence other generations of little girls to also become ranch owners.
