Today we’d like to introduce you to Artonique Nelson
Hi Artonique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off with social media influencing when I was in college. I used to work in journalism so I learned the basics about editing and video production. After I graduated college I noticed I loved the process of building businesses so I decided to keep at it . Now I am a full time social media influencer . I’ve worked with brands, done modeling jobs, and I have a subscription page on my Instagram where I teach other women to do the same thing. I love working for myself because I don’t have to deal with workplace drama or the glass ceilings that can come with working for someone else. I get to decide how far I want to go with it .
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Sometimes I’ve had to deal with trolls and haters, or brands that are unprofessional . Another part of being an influencer is dealing with algorithms. Sometimes the algorithm updates and your previous strategy isn’t applicable anymore .
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a social media influencer who specializes in fashion, beauty and wellness. On Instagram I have a subscription page where I teach other women how to monetize their social media accounts as well. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve had a lot of people in the past who didn’t believe in me but I’m glad I didn’t listen to them because I was able to quit my full time job and work as an influencer . I love the opportunities I’ve received from social media- like being able to speak at schools for example. It’s really cool to see the kids get excited about having their own online businesses one day!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the social media influencer market will continue to grow . I try to tell everyone I come into contact with that they need to start an online business! It’s great for passive income ! I think that social media will overtake mainstream media in terms of entertainment . I’ve seen producers make movies and instead of trying to get a deal with Netflix, they will just upload their entire movie onto YouTube . I think that social media is the future of marketing and personal branding.
