Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Cervantes Muñoz.
Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, my mother always took photos of every single moment, and I mean every single one, lol. She always said, “you have to capture each moment because they only happen once”, and that really stuck with me. I subconsciously held onto that, and slowly began to walk in those footsteps. Even though I was annoyed of so many photos as a teenager lol, I am so grateful she was able to leave an everlasting impression on me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey as a photographer hasn’t always been smooth. There were bumps along the way. When I first started taking photos, it was for my school yearbook in high school. Although I loved it so much. I did grow frustrated because that’s when I started to compare myself to the other photographers in my class. They were already years ahead of me, and I just remember wanting to be on the same level one day. I allowed my insecurities to get the best of me, and one day just stopped taking photos. Life had another plan for me, and brought me right back to taking photos. Once I began again, I felt like I had rekindled with an old love. Since then, I have been learning more about my strengths in photography. I’ve also discovered the direction I want to go with it as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Wedding Photographer, and I also do creative shoots as well. Ex: street photography, boudoir, women empowerment shoots, etc. Whenever I shoot, I feel like my soul binds with my camera and my lens becomes my literal eye and my creativity just takes over. There are times where I just zone out and become so creatively focused. I definitely use my personable personality while I’m shooting. It allows me to connect with my clients on a deeper level, and I like to show them I see their person beyond the physical aspects. Especially when I shoot boudoir because it’s a lot of pressure to be comfortable in that setting. My goal is always to display to my clients what their soul entails and highlight their strengths and I feel like that just happens naturally every shoot because of the connection we build. I have many plans for my photos though and where I want to take my art. This is only the beginning!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Practice mindfulness to not let societal standards keep you in a comfortable setting. Long term growth takes place when you take risks. Your purpose and your passions are within you, and you deserve to be seen. You deserve to be heard. It’s scary to stand on a stage for a world of people to judge, but you never know who you may touch by simply being yourself. Take the risk!
