Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lara.

Ashley Lara

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I discovered photography during one of the most transformative seasons of my life, right after becoming a mother. I received my very first camera as a gift from my husband on my son’s birthday, just a week before my own, and that moment quietly changed everything for me. After graduating high school in 2019, I had planned to pursue computer engineering, but without the support or resources to make that path possible, I spent time working different jobs and side gigs, trying to find where I truly belonged. It wasn’t until I picked up a camera that something finally clicked. Photography became more than just a hobby, it became a passion. I fell in love with the process of learning, growing, and capturing meaningful moments, and it’s been the one thing that’s truly stayed with me ever since. As my passion grew, so did my determination to build something of my own. I worked hard, saving every extra dollar I could to invest back into my craft. Instead of taking on debt, I chose to be patient and intentional purchasing used and pre-owned gear, learning how to make the most of what I had, and upgrading only when I truly earned it. Every piece of equipment I own tells a story of discipline, sacrifice, and belief in my dream. That journey not only shaped my business, but also taught me to value growth, resilience, and the process behind every image I create.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
After my second child was born, I faced one of the hardest chapters of my journey. I struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety while trying to adjust to life with two little ones who needed me in completely different ways. There were days when simply getting through the day felt overwhelming, let alone finding the energy and motivation to pour into my business. At the same time, I was trying to grow in an industry that often feels oversaturated, where it’s easy to question your place and your worth. But even in those moments, I held onto my passion for photography. It became both an outlet and a reminder of who I am outside of the hard days. Slowly, with patience and persistence, I kept showing up for my family, for myself, and for the dream I refused to let go of.

In 2025, I faced another major challenge that pushed me to my limits. My computer, my main tool for editing and running my business completely crashed and fried at the worst possible time. I was left with less than a month to finish editing over 30 galleries before graduation day, all while trying to balance life at home and taking care of my own well being. The stress and anxiety during that time felt overwhelming, and there were moments I didn’t know how I was going to get through it. But I refused to give up on the clients who trusted me with their memories or on the business I had worked so hard to build. I found a way to keep going, to problem solve, and to push through the pressure. That season stretched me in every way, but it also reminded me of my strength, my resilience, and just how deeply I care about the work I do.

Looking back, every challenge I’ve faced has shaped not only my journey, but the photographer and person I’ve become. I’ve learned the value of patience, discipline, and trusting the process even when things feel uncertain or overwhelming. I’ve grown stronger in my ability to adapt, problem solve, and keep showing up, no matter the circumstances. Through the highs and the hardships, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of my craft, my purpose, and the importance of caring for both my clients and myself. What once felt like obstacles have become stepping stones, building a foundation of resilience, confidence, and passion that continues to drive me forward every day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait photographer specializing in seniors, families, couples, as well as events and sports photography. I’m best known for my senior portraits and behind the scenes videos on TikTok, as well as for creating the first Senior Ambassador Program in my town, now in its fourth year, with a team of 10 incredible senior girls representing four different schools. I’m especially proud of this year’s ambassador team; their hard work, dedication, and creativity have made the project truly special, both individually and as a team. My work has been featured in over 10 magazines, was the cover for 2 and nominated for a 3rd.
I had the honor of serving as a contributing photographer for Dave Campbell Texas Football this past season. It was a truly incredible experience that allowed me to grow and connect with many different photographers in my area & surrounding.

What I feel sets me apart from others is my compassion and ability to make everyone feel comfortable and seen. Even on a first session, I strive to create a connection that feels like we’ve known each other for years, ensuring every client feels confident, valued, and celebrated in front of the camera.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me personally is my family. They are my foundation and inspiration. The whole reason I do what I do. Without them I would still be looking for my purpose.

In my line of work, my goal is to create lasting reminders of moments people truly value. I strive to capture and celebrate life to its fullest, preserving memories that clients can cherish for years to come. I want people to walk by their home, or scroll through their camera roll and see the memories I captured for them and remember exactly how they felt the moment it was taken.
I have never valued life and it’s beauty until I started photography, now that I see it I want to open everyone’s eyes to it and see what I see. To value what’s infront of them.
