Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashly Henderson.
Hi Ashly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for baking started when I was a kid, but my real journey with baking started in 2013 when I got diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. I took a holistic approach to handle it and changed my diet. I did all diets gluten-free (AIP, Paleo, Keto, ect ). This made my love for baking challenging. But I like a good challenge! I spend a lot of time in the kitchen just teaching myself a new way of baking. Fast forward to 2018, I decided to do gluten-free baked goods out of my home for people who needed them. The Lord told me to call it “Sweet Blessings Bakery”. I immediately thought, “Wow! What a perfect name!” I still do it out of my home as I am needed. I am so overjoyed to serve others who are gluten-free or have other dietary needs. It really is a sweet blessing to me as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, I have challenges! Baking always comes with the occasional mess up. But you just got to pick yourself up and try again. Another obstacle would be trying to give my attention to being a wife, mom of 5, and a baker all under one roof. But most days, they are helpful. They love to cheer me on! I really pray a lot when I bake and for who it will go to. My help comes from the Lord. After all, He gave me my talent ,why wouldn’t I include Him in it? It never ceases to amaze me how He helps all the little details come together.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an at-home gluten-free bakery. I specialize in gluten-free baked goods but also accommodate for other dietary needs. I am mostly known for my cakes but I love to bake other baked goods too. I am most proud of how much it brings joy to others. I couldn’t tell you how many times I get told by customers that they had never had a cake before. What sets me apart is that I only do gluten-free baked goods. I also try my best to get non-gmo, natural /organic ingredients.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe that God our creator gave me the talent for baking these gluten-free goods and a talent for art. And how neat I get to put them together!
