Rising Stars: Meet Ashlyn Evans of Stafford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Evans.

Hi Ashlyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started acting in my home town of San Angelo, Tx at age 12 at the San Angelo Broadway Academy community theatre. My first ever production was Hairspray playing an ensemble role, and understudying for Lil Inez. I can still remember the fear I felt walking into that audition with no prior training or experience, but I fell in love. I joined my high school theatre troupe and then went off to college at Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi where I received my BA in 2022. I have now been acting for 13 years of my life, working professionally for 3 years! I couldn’t have done it and continue to do it without the support of my family, friends, and my wonderful partner Jedidiah Barker. I have now lived in Houston for a little over a year and am absolutely loving it here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not always been easy, and I would argue that it is still very difficult at times. One of the biggest challenges in my artistic life has been overcoming my own insecurities and giving myself the freedom of expression. It’s very difficult to put yourself on stage in front of hundreds of strangers, even in front of people you know, and especially other artists who watch a play or film through the artist’s perspective. What has helped me and is continuing to help me, is the knowledge of who I am in my Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a newer actress in the city! I’ve previously worked at Dirt Dogs Theatre Company, Classical Theatre Company, The Alley Theatre, and most recently Stages Houston here in town. I also work at the Texas Shakespeare Festival as much as I can which is in Kilgore, Texas. I love all types of theatre and plays; classical, Shakespeare, modern dramas, comedies, you name it I love it. I would say I ‘specialize’ in Shakespeare or something dramatic. I am most proud of the work I have accomplished this year. I made my Alley Theatre Debut in Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d, and then immediately jumped over to Stages to work on Mud Row by Dominique Morisseau. I am so proud of the growth I have made in my artistic endeavors. My life goal is to continue to learn and grow and progress in my artistry and I believe I am doing just that every time I step on stage or in front of the camera.
