Rising Stars: Meet Ashlyn Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Green.

Ashlyn Green

Hi Ashlyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I grew up in a single-parent household with a mother who instilled the value of being exactly who you are. She would let me wear the most tom-boyish Jordan’s and my sister wore her Cinderella boots year-round. Somewhere along the way, I lost the value of embracing all of who I am and began seeking validation and love from others. This not only led me down a road of rejection from others but most importantly a rejection of self. Through self-discovery, mindfulness, and Soulace, I found my way back to my mother’s teachings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has not been smooth, but the bumps and potholes have only taught me how to travel down roads that are less bumpy. Traveling down smoother roads sometimes means taking the road less traveled, which is oftentimes the long way, but the lessons are most rewarding. I have experienced great pain, but I had to realize the role I played in my own suffering in order to heal. My most prevalent struggle has been the fight against myself and who I’ve always known I could be. Cognitive dissonance can definitely explain the conflict that I have had within for the majority of my life. I have always known my potential, but my actions and fear of being my authentic self have delayed this version of who I am now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the creator of the platform Soulace Space, in which I teach individuals that they do not have to seek comfort or validation from any source outside of themselves. I show them that comfort is wherever they are. This platform was birthed through my pain and dissatisfaction with myself. Attempting to fit into a society that teaches us to survive and not live forced me to experience a slow and painful spiritual death that almost resulted in a suicide attempt. Last year, I had the mere realization that the depression I was experiencing was a direct result of a suppression of my truest self. I now understand that I must be the rock that starts the ripple of generational healing and growth. I also have a standing partnership with the Kashmere Multi-Service Center in 5th ward, where I teach little humans affirmative yoga classes. Through my public and private 1-on-1 classes, I am able to help them realize that they are the rock, and that is what I am most proud of. My other offering is soul sessions, where I help individuals connect with themselves on a deeper level and clear any blockages that may be keeping them from being the best version of themselves.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
Risk are usually viewed as one potentially losing something with no reward. However, my view of risk changed when the Most High told me that my last job would be my LAST job. I had a great paying position for my age, and my housing was paid for, but I kept feeling an intense calling for more. I listened and lost my car in the process, but I gained so much more. From there, I moved to Colorado and started my Soulversations show, where I have hosted 20 guests. More than one of my guest have told me that I changed the trajectory of their lives through our Soulversation. That in itself showed me that your perspective determines if a reward comes with the risk
