Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandice Hulsey aka DJBrandice.
Hi Brandice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey in music playing piano at 10 years old. I have a huge passion for music and female empowerment. I was inspired to become a Producer after hearing Alicia Keys and noticing a huge need for female music Producers & Engineers. I am a graduate of MediaTech Institute Houston. I started writing songs in high school. I started singing/rapping about 3 years ago. My music is inspired by artists including Alicia Keys, Kehlani and Lecrae.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every journey has its own struggle in some form. I bounced around from job to job trying to make enough to pay for equipment, studio time and pay for school. I was told everything from I wouldn’t make it to ….you need a real job. A lot of times when I’m engineering a session I’m the only female that’s not the artist in the studio.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Christian Hip-hop and R&b/Soul Artist and Producer. I’m known mostly for my songs. I released my debut self-produced single “Blessed” back in August 2020 and a more recent release “Good Enough”. I sing/rap, but I mostly promote myself as a Producer. I make beats I write lyrics and Produce all my songs and have mixed for a few other artists in the Houston area. I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown with every song I release, it gets better and better and people learn more about me each time. What sets me apart from others is my uniqueness I don’t produce like everyone else. I have been told I have a beautiful way of blending Hip-hop and R&b with a Christian twist.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned is to be always grateful because everything could be gone in an instant. There’s always someone who’s got it worse than you. We have to do what we can with the resources we have to help others. When we grow together we glow together.
