Rising Stars: Meet Brandy Dallas of Southwest Houston Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Dallas.

Hi Brandy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the cake industry honestly happened by accident — it was never part of some grand plan. I’ve always had a love for art, design, and creativity, and I’m constantly trying new things just to see what I can create. One day, I attended a friend’s birthday party, and she had a Coach handbag cake. Everyone was amazed, but I remember thinking, “I could’ve done a better job,” even though I had zero experience in baking or cake artistry.

The following week, that thought wouldn’t leave me alone. I went to the store, bought everything I thought I’d need, and made my own version of a Coach handbag cake. To my surprise, it turned out amazing. I posted it on Facebook, and that’s when everything took off. People started commenting and messaging me saying, “I didn’t know you were a cake artist!” and I laughed and replied, “Neither did I!” Before I knew it, orders were coming in left and right, and what started as curiosity became my career.

In the beginning, it was actually me and my mom — she was the baker, and I was the artist. We originally named the business Sweet Tee Bee’s Cake Hive, a fun combination of our names: Tanya and Brandy. As life evolved and my mom stepped away, I rebranded to B. Dallas’ Cakes after relocating from Houston to Dallas — and now, I’ve come full circle, back home in Houston where it all started.

Since then, my work has been featured on Netflix’s Sugar Rush, Food Network’s Halloween Wars, and NBC’s Texas Today Show. I’ve had the honor of creating custom cakes and edible art for major brands like ONCOR, Match.com, UPS, Southwest Airlines, and ServiceNow — each project allowing me to fuse design, storytelling, and flavor in unforgettable ways. What began as a spontaneous challenge turned into a career that embodies everything I love: creativity, transformation, and the art of making people smile.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, it’s definitely not been a smooth road — more like a beautiful roller coaster with no seatbelt. One of my biggest challenges was relocating. When I moved from Houston to Dallas, I had to rebuild my entire client base from scratch. Just when things started flowing there, I decided to move back to Houston and had to start all over again. That was a real test of faith and resilience, but it taught me how to pivot, stay adaptable, and trust my gift no matter where I am.

And honestly, the industry itself keeps you on your toes. Social media runs the show now — one minute you’re trending, the next you’re invisible if you’re not posting. Add in the economy constantly shifting and people DIY’ing everything these days, and you’ve really gotta know how to reinvent yourself. I’ve learned to treat every challenge like a creative project — instead of fighting the changes, I flow with them.

Because in business — and in life — if you can’t pivot, you’ll get left behind. But if you learn how to flow, you’ll always find your way forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the owner and creative visionary behind B. Dallas’ Cakes, a luxury custom cake studio where art and flavor collide. I specialize in sculpted and high-end statement cakes — the kind that make people stop and say, “Wait, that’s cake?” My work is known for its clean structure, modern design aesthetic, and attention to detail. I approach cake design the same way a designer approaches fashion or architecture — it’s not just dessert, it’s an experience.

Over the years, my work has been featured on Netflix’s Sugar Rush, Food Network’s Halloween Wars, and NBC’s Texas Today Show. I’ve had the honor of creating for some incredible brands like ONCOR, Match.com, UPS, Southwest Airlines, and ServiceNow. Each project has allowed me to push creative boundaries and tell stories through edible art.

What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come as a self-taught artist. I didn’t go to pastry school — I learned by experimenting, trusting my instincts, and never being afraid to fail. What sets me apart is that I don’t just make cakes — I design emotions. Every detail has meaning, every structure has intention, and every client experience feels personal.

I’m proud that my work reflects evolution — not just of my skills, but of my spirit. B. Dallas’ Cakes has become more than a brand — it’s a reflection of creativity, resilience, and the belief that art has no limits when you lead with passion.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people don’t know about me is that I never planned to be a cake artist at all — I actually stumbled into it by pure curiosity. Before baking, I was simply a creative soul who loved experimenting with design, art, and hands-on projects. I’ve always seen the world through an artistic lens — whether it’s interior design, digital art, or sculpting something out of nothing. Cakes just happened to become my canvas.

Another surprising thing is that I’m completely self-taught. Every technique, structure, and design you see from me was learned through trial, error, and sheer determination. I didn’t go to culinary school or have formal training — I just trusted my eye, my intuition, and my obsession with making things beautiful.

I think that’s what surprises people most — that B. Dallas’ Cakes wasn’t born from a pastry background, but from raw creativity, passion, and a willingness to learn as I go. My artistry has always been bigger than one medium — cake design just happened to be the one that took off first.
