Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Thorne.
Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is one of detailed adversity. Growing up, I faced a lot of backlash for who I was and what I wanted to be. It was a very long process to unlearn all of the negative things I was taught to believe about myself. It took me maturing and finding love within myself to appreciate who I was and to decide that I wanted to share that image with the world. All of the work that I do now is influenced by the challenges that I had to overcome in life and the fact that I don’t want people like me or who look up to me to have to go through similar situations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I’m beyond blessed to have people in my life like Ann Lecompte and family and friends who continuously support me and push me to seek answers where I only found disbelief. It’s due to people like them and the many strangers I’ve learned from on my journey that I am successful and still strive to be. This road was by no means smooth, but it’s through that adversity that I found value in not only the struggle but the accolades earned when you overcome it all.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As of right now, I am a freelance model, a business student, and the owner and founder of a men’s lingerie company created in mind for gay men but exclusive to no one. I often find myself getting lost in new creative pursuits, but the art of modeling and the thrill of creative expression through fashion design have always kept my attention the best. My lingerie brand is a great example of some of the projects I’ve immersed myself in as a response to what I’ve faced growing up. I’ve always felt like there was a lack of safe spaces for gay men and all of the members of the LGBTQ+ community to call their own and feel catered to. I wanted to create something specifically for us that wouldn’t just be for monetary gain but would spread awareness, acceptance, and opportunities throughout my community. I think one of the biggest things that sets me apart from others is my unconventionality. I don’t traditionally do anything the same way as anyone else, and that’s one of the things I love most about myself. I’m eccentric and outgoing, but I still acknowledge my shy attributes. I’m creative and flamboyant, but I’ve learned not to censor those parts of myself as the people who love them the most will be the ones I spend most of my time with in life. And most of all, I believe that my ambition sets me apart from others in my field. I don’t subscribe to the ideas of what can and cannot be done at my age or demographic. I strive to be the best at whatever it is I choose to participate in, and I will be the last person to limit myself in regards to that. It’s a headache and a handful, but somehow I get it done.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I want to say that everything you’ve been through and everything that you are is for a reason. I’ve always believed that those stories of adversity that I wouldn’t say I like to talk about the most will be tools of wisdom and guidance for someone else coming after me. Not only as a tool for guidance but also as a model for what you can achieve and overcome as well when you embrace yourself and don’t give up.
