Rising Stars: Meet Brittany Kluss of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kluss.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
i’ve always been the kind of person who likes doing things with my hands, and hair was just one of those things that stuck. as soon as i graduated high school, i enrolled in this little hole-in-the-wall hair school and just dove in headfirst. that was 16 years ago, and honestly? i knew right away this was it for me.

i started out in more traditional salons—super structured, not a lot of room for creativity or authenticity. eventually, i realized i wanted to create a space that felt like the opposite of that: somewhere people could actually relax, feel seen, and walk out looking like themselves.

now i specialize in alternative cuts, shags, mullets, lived-in color, and creating a vibe that’s chill, sustainable, and real. i use eco-conscious products, i’ve ditched tipping, and i’m all about making the experience feel intentional—not transactional. good hair, good energy, no weird small talk required.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
definitely not a smooth road—and honestly, i don’t think i’d want it to be. the challenges have shaped so much of who i am as a stylist and business owner.

early on, it was tough working in salons that didn’t align with my values. there was pressure to conform, upsell, and fit into a mold that just didn’t feel right. i had moments of burnout, imposter syndrome, and questioning if i was really cut out for this.

eventually, i realized i needed to stop trying to fit into the industry and start creating my own version of it. building something from the ground up isn’t easy—there were financial stresses, self-doubt, and times i felt like i was flying blind. but every struggle pushed me closer to finding my people and doing work that actually feels fulfilling.

the biggest turning point? learning to believe in myself, recognizing my worth, and realizing—damn, i’m actually really good at this.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
i’m a hairstylist who specializes in alternative cuts, shags, mullets, short hair, lived-in color, and all the weird, fun, bold stuff that doesn’t always get enough love in traditional salons. i work with natural texture, love creating custom shapes, and i’m especially into hair color that mimics natural tones—dimensional, soft, and effortless, like you were born with it (but better).

what sets me apart? i’ve built my space around intention. i’m gratuity-free, i use clean, eco-conscious products, and i make sure my clients feel safe, seen, and never rushed. it’s not just about a haircut—it’s about the experience, the vibe, the connection. i don’t do cookie-cutter hair or surface-level service.

i’m most proud of the community i’ve built—clients who trust me, let me get creative, and know they’re walking into a judgment-free zone. this isn’t just a job to me, it’s personal. and i think that shows in every appointment.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
what i love most about our city is the food and the culture. there’s so much diversity here, and you can feel it in the people, the neighborhoods, and honestly, the food scene is unmatched.

what i like least? the traffic (obviously), the lack of sidewalks (i just wanna take a cute walk without risking my life), and don’t even get me started on the public transportation—it’s basically nonexistent unless you’re down to wait forever or melt in the heat.
