Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Lewis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started at the age of 13 when I decided to cut all my hair off and embrace my natural hair. it was a big step but I was ready. After cutting my hair off and going through the natural hair process I would always get different questions when it came to taking care of my hair and doing different styles. So at the age of 15, I created a youtube channel (B.Curly) to help young women and girls with how to care for their natural hair and embrace it. Fast forward 2 years later I had a conversation with my parents while we were on a road trip who are also entrepreneurs. My dad was telling me how I should find something I enjoy and start a business. As soon as we got back home I started doing some research on what I wanted to sell, what I liked, and what I would enjoy selling. That’s when it hit me, hair bonnets. Bonnets are a key accessory when it comes to natural hair and it is something that I use every day. It has been amazing to hear people say how I’ve inspired them to go natural and start their own businesses.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
A few Obstacles that I’ve endured when starting my business have been having a lack of knowledge when it came to marketing and social media. I was also challenged with the unknown. Will people buy them, will they like the bonnets, and will people find out about me? Luckily I have an amazing support team that walked me through everything I needed to know to have a successful business and I also challenged myself to learn the in and outs of my small business journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a teen entrepreneur and natural hair YouTuber\Influencer. When it comes to my business I organize and operate a small online business to help you with all your hair bonnet and hair accessory needs. As a natural hair YouTuber, I give my audience different tips on washing, conditioning, and styling their natural hair. Being a YouTuber I record, edit, and upload my own videos.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very loud, energetic, and curious with an I can-do attitude. It was five of us in my household so you can imagine there was never a dull moment. My parents have always been my biggest supporters in whatever I participated in. Growing up with parents who were entrepreneurs since I was born I couldn’t miss the entrepreneurial attitude. They have always told me the stories of how when I was a kid I said ” I can do it” whether it was opening a tight jar or doing something my older sisters were doing. I was raised to love God and trust Him in all things and I believe that is why our family has been successful. Of course, I have gone through challenging things but I was taught to learn from my mistakes. I had an amazing childhood growing up and wouldn’t change a thing.
