Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Rocha
Hi Candy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi everyone my name is Candy, yes it’s spelled just like what you see at a grocery store, or on a candy bar. I’m the host of “The Candy Coated Podcast,” a space where Latinas can connect, share honest advice, and chase their dreams together. Podcasts were everywhere, offering amazing voices and advice. But what if there was a space, I thought, where that wisdom blended with the warmth of a supportive community? A space just for us, Latinas, to figure it all out together? We tackle everything from careers and relationships to family and personal growth, all with a sprinkle of sugar and a whole lot of support.
And that’s how “The Candy Coated Podcast” was born! The name? A playful nod to both those sugary treats we craved and the idea that life, even with its challenges, can still be delicious.
Fast forward to today, and this little dream has become a vibrant space for Latinas of all backgrounds. We laugh, we cry, we strategize, and most importantly, we celebrate each other’s triumphs! Hearing stories of listeners landing their dream jobs, connecting with family, and chasing their passions – that’s the real sugar rush, Amigas.
It wasn’t always easy, but with every episode, the magic unfolded. And guess what? My amazing listeners, are the heart of that magic. So here’s to you, everyone that’s reading this article! Let’s keep reaching for those dreams, together, because with a little support and a whole lot of cafecito (or tea whichever you prefer), anything is possible!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been all smooth sailing. There have been challenges along the way, like learning the ropes of audio editing and promoting the podcast. For example, I always thought you just record and publish, but I learned it’s not as easy as it sounds. From creating to publishing it takes me about 4-5 days. But the incredible support from the Candy Coated Amigas has made it all worthwhile!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to record and publish weekly, I like to share a life update and then talk about a topic, whether it be relationship advice, a trip experience or something that is about being a big sister. I like to provide insight and share my thoughts/experiences with everyone listening because often times people are going through the same thing and think that they’re the only ones, which is not the case as Hispanics/Latinas/Immigrants we go through different but similar struggles.
What makes “The Candy Coated Podcast” special? We’re a community built for Latinas, by a Latina. I’m most proud of the incredible connections I’ve fostered – listeners reaching goals, strengthening bonds with family, and embracing their passions. It’s a testament to the power of community and the beauty of shared wisdom. So come join the Candy Coated Amigas – we’d love to have you! You can tune in through Apple or Spotify Podcast!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, I’m so grateful to God for the opportunity to share my voice through this podcast. Second, there’s my incredible fiancé. He believed in this dream from the very beginning and continues to be my biggest cheerleader through every technical hurdle and creative brainstorm.
My family is another huge source of strength. Sure, there might be a few Spanglish episodes that go over my mom’s head, but her unwavering support speaks volumes. She listens to everything, even if it’s not always in her native language! Being an older sister to my amazing sisters has not only shaped who I am, but it’s also fueled so many of the conversations and experiences I share on my podcast, cheers to them!
Then there’s Nella Garcia Urban, my amazing mentor for over a decade. She’s been instrumental in shaping me into the empowered Latina I am today, and her guidance has been invaluable in navigating this journey.
And of course, a huge shoutout to each and every listener (amiga as I love to call them) who’s tuned in, shared their story, or offered words of encouragement. You are the Candy Coated Community, the heart and soul of this podcast, and your support means the world!
